Somehow, at age 40, I managed to rediscover American Eagle, one of the mall stores in which I spent an exorbitant amount of time during college two (oh) decades (my) ago (god). A newfound interest in fitness drew me to the Aerie side of the business this year thanks to its freaking awesome leggings, which served as a gateway drug to the main AE inventory (especially the truly magical high-waist jeans). But had I not found my way back via stretchy pants, I have no doubt I would've been lured in by the brand's latest, totally unexpected, and yet logical launch: CBD skin care.
American Eagle just dropped Mood, a colorful collection of personal-care products — specifically, body lotion, body cream, lip balm, lip salve, aromatherapy oil, hand cream, sugar scrub, face wash, face oil, bath soak, and pillow mist. There are 45 products in all, and each one falls under a different fragrance category: Chill is warm vanilla; Energized is mandarin nectar; Focused has a citrus twist; Refreshed features cool coconut; Soothed is made with fresh eucalyptus, and Zzz features soft lavender. In addition to serving their obvious purposes, whether that's moisturizing or cleansing, each one relies on aromatherapy and the inclusion of 100% hemp-derived CBD oil to help encourage your desired (as the line's name suggests) mood.
"Inspired by our customers and their interest in this exciting new category, we see this as a perfect extension of the AE brand. Mood is designed to help everyone, especially young people, live a better quality of life," reads a statement from American Eagle global brand president Chad Kessler, who suggests that these first nearly four-dozen products are just the beginning.
And like so many of AE's campaigns, Mood's is refreshingly inclusive. "The playful and colorful campaign brings the spirit of Mood to life," reads a press release from the brand. "The campaign features unscripted interviews from real kids talking about the pressure of everyday life and the self-care routines that help manage it."
This 40-year-old real kid totally relates, and can't wait to check out the collection next time I visit an American Eagle store (which, knowing me, will probably be this afternoon). You can also find all of the Mood products, ranging from $9–$20 on ae.com.
