Amber Heard's tone-deaf tweet urges Hollywood elite to drive home the help to avoid ICE
Amber Heard may care about the currently turbulent issue of immigrant’s rights in the United States, but she might want to give a little more thought to her statements before hitting the tweet button.
On Monday night, the Aquaman star posted a warning that there was an ICE checkpoint in her Hollywood neighborhood. She then urged her neighbors to, basically, drive home the help.
Just heard there’s an ICE checkpoint in hollywood, a few blocks from where I live. Everyone better give their housekeepers, nannies and landscapers a ride home tonight…

Facepalm.
Heard has been an advocate for immigrants rights. The Texas native recently traveled back to her home state to protest treatment of families at the U.S. border (even wearing a “Yes, I do care” shirt — in Spanish — mocking first lady Melania Trump’s infamous jacket).
And the actress followed (or clarified, perhaps) the tweet shortly after with more standard, non-racially charged thoughts: “Checkpoints on your home streets. … Is this the ‘great’ America we’re aiming for?” she wrote. “Raids, fences and police-state-like checkpoints don’t feel like the ‘land of the free’ our immigrant ancestors built.”
Heard later deleted the tweet, and somewhat responded controversy saying the noise was a distraction.
With this human rights crisis being so politicized, it is hard to make a simple statement w/out it being used to distract from the real issues. Its hard for everyone to not be negatively affected by this subject n some way. pic.twitter.com/nZ0PrMet4G

But the damage was done. The Twittersphere quickly called her out as tone-deaf and falsely “woke.”
I can see where you were going but somewhere along the way you took a wrong turn. Delete this sis

Can this sound any more 1950s white privileged? These professions aren’t just for immigrants nor do they need ‘white chaperones’ as a safety net. You could have worded this better 🙄

I would expect you to have a little more sense than this, but… you did date Johnny Depp pic.twitter.com/SdPvoLIAnH

#AmberHeard – just your typical out-of-touch, virtual signaling elitist prototype.
Yup, #ThatsRacistWhen you try to be the "wokest" of the "woke". but then type this.. https://t.co/T9E36YePNM

Amber heard: aye other rich white folk I heard they’re doing ice checks, so drive them home if you don’t wanna lose the help!

Some of Heard’s fans, however, tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, theorizing that the actress’s heart was in the right place and she was actually taking a deliberate jab at her privileged peers.
Maybe I’m misreading this tweet, but she’s not stereotyping Mexican people, she’s calling out her fellow Hollywood white elites that’ll hire Mexican workers for dirt cheap etc?

I think the tweet is meant to be sarcastic…sorta calling out the elites who do hire these ppl in these profession
I could be wrong here…but that's how I read it upon first glance

Not buying that? Well, neither are other tweeters, including this one, who summed things up succinctly.
Just kept spinning, just keep spinning… pic.twitter.com/2qwfIpdEJ7
