Amazon Is Selling High-Tech Homes in Smart Communities
As a retailer that offers everything from electric massagers to tiny garden homes, it’s hard to believe that Amazon started as an online bookstore. You can buy just about anything from the from the e-comm giant—and get it delivered the same day. It also offers a ton of convenient services, including one where you can find someone to clean your entire house. Now, Amazon is raising the stakes, selling high-tech homes and apartments in smart communities.
Remember when a futuristic home meant you could turn off the lights by clapping twice? Well, the homes in Amazon Smart Communities feature voice-activated, hands-free convenience. Through Alexa, you can control the way you live by using just your voice. If you’re in your kitchen and you say, “Alexa, show me the front door,” Alexa will pull up a livestream of your front door. Ready for bed? Simply say, “Alexa, good night,” and the temperature will lower, the front door will lock, and the lights will turn off. And when you wake up, if you want Alexa to brighten the lights, tell you the weather and your expected commute time, you just have to say, “Alexa, good morning.”
The homes come with tons of devices that enable efficiency and connectivity. Some of the products include an Echo Show , Echo Dot, a wireless speaker, a smart garage door opener, smart shades, smart lighting, and a smart thermostat. To keep your home secure, you’ll get a Ring Video Doorbell and a smart deadbolt that can issue virtual keys. You can even monitor the lock using an app.
Depending on their location, the smart homes have different home technology packages. So far, there are Amazon Smart Communities in 19 states across the U.S., including California, Arizona, Texas, Maryland, and Minnesota.
