I applaud you for being a fervent reader, but it's 2019, and it's probably time to upgrade to an e-reader to give your poor back and arms some much-needed relief. Enter the all-new Amazon Kindle, a high quality and reliable e-reader that allows you to read more books without getting back and shoulder strain from carrying them everywhere.
Although there are many quality e-readers on the market, the Amazon Kindle is my pick for its slim, lightweight design, six-week battery life and access to more e-books from major publishers and self-publishers alike. And most importantly, for its low and very reasonable price point.
Amazon's newest entry-level model comes with 4GB of storage housed in a lighter and thinner design than previous versions. It has built-in WiFi and weighs in at a mere 6.1 ounces. And I know at this weight, ounces aren’t really difficult to handle or lift but believe me, you can feel the difference in weight when you’re reading for long periods of time. Trust me, your arms and shoulders will thank you later.
The e-reader is also glare-free thanks to its 176 PPI (pixels per inch) e-ink, 6-inch display, which has the adjustable lights for indoor and outdoor use and four LED lights for nighttime reading. This feature makes for a comfortable and luxurious reading experience no matter where you are.
Now, I can read while soaking in the tub, at the beach, or laying outside near the pool. With the e-ink display, this model won’t strain my eyes — even if I’m reading something massive like Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Infinite Jest, or Becoming by Michelle Obama for hours on end.
In terms of battery life, the Amazon Kindle can last for a whopping four weeks — not just days or hours, but weeks — of juice.
However, in my day-to-day use, I discovered that I could get three-and-a-half weeks of reading time with the wireless off and the display set to low. I read about 30-to-45 minutes a day (At the moment, I’m reading America Is Not the Heart by Elaine Castro), which seems to be about average for steady and daily readers, but I was still getting an excellent battery life compared to my other devices.
The Kindle definitely outpaced my Apple iPad and Google Pixel smartphone in that respect.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for additional features, the all-new Kindle syncs with an Audible account — which is also an Amazon-owned company — so the audiobook versions of bestsellers can be read to you via Bluetooth speakers or headphones. I found this feature to be very beneficial when cooking or going for a morning run. I didn’t have to stop reading, even though I was away from the Kindle. And when I returned to the device, the page where I stopped on the Audible version was ready for me on my e-reader, so I could pick up right where I left off.
If 4GB of storage is not enough space, you can also opt for an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite — which is more expensive, but comes in 8GB or 32GB models starting at $130 — so now you can have more ebooks, magazines, comic books, and audiobooks on you at all times.

The all-new Amazon Kindle is on sale for $70 (was $90) and comes with 4GB of storage and WiFi connectivity, and 3 months of free Kindle Unlimited. This model is ad-supported, so if you don’t want ads on your lock screen, then the base model without ads goes for $90 (was $110) on Amazon.
It also comes with a charging cable (USB 2.0) and a handy quick start guide. The e-reader also has optional fabric covers ($25, was $30) available, which come in various colors.
