As we prepare for another sweltering summer, many people are looking for affordable ways to beat the heat without retreating indoors to the air conditioner.

With COVID putting a damper on our access to public pools and beaches, an inflatable pool is a great way to cool off and make a splash with your family and friends. One of Amazon's most popular inflatable pools retails for less than $170 and features more than 3,000 customer reviews to check-out before you shop.

What is it?

The Intex Easy Set Pool is a family size inflatable pool with PVC laminated side walls and a 110-120 volt filter pump so that you and your family can enjoy hours of playtime in fresh, clean water all summer long.

This upgrade to the kiddie inflatable pool is ready to fill in less than 10 minutes and holds up to 1,485 gallons of water. Intex's Easy Set pool pumps 530 gallons of water per hour and features an easy to clean cartridge as well as a maintenance DVD to ensure your pool is in working order all summer long.

When you're done with your pool or need to close up for the season, attach a hose to the pool's drain plug and easily empty the contents of your pool away from your home and lawn.

The pool doesn't come with its own cover, however Intex does sell a 12 ft cover rand cleaning accessories separately so you can keep your pool in tip-top shape.

What people are saying

The Intex Easy Set Pool has earned a solid 4.1-star rating from more than 3,000 customer reviews from Canadian and international shoppers. The consensus among customers is that the Intex Easy Set pool is an affordable option for families and great for anyone who may be thinking about investing in an above ground pool in the near future, but wants to dip their toe into pool life.

"I use this so I can lay out to tan without having a heat stroke during the hot, humid Gulf Coast summer. It’s been perfect for that purpose and I have nothing negative to say about it. I initially planned on filling it up on the weekends when I was going to use it and then draining it each time because I didn’t want the hassle of any kind of maintenance," one shopper wrote. "However, I realized the next weekend, seven days after setting it up and using it the first time, that the water was still perfectly clear and nothing had gotten in the pool, so I went ahead and ordered one of the mini floating chlorine dispensers and some tablets. It just didn’t make sense to drain it and spend four or five hours filling it up again when it was staying so clean. I don’t bother with the pH or anything else. Obviously, the fact that I’m the only one using it (and am careful about making sure my feet are perfectly clean before getting in) means I can probably get away with doing less than if there were kids using it. It was easy to set up by myself once I got over the initial confusion caused by the parts list and instructions being apparently intended for another model. But it’s an $80 (USD) pool so I didn’t really expect much."

Some shoppers have said that the instruction manual can be a little tricky to follow, but there are tons of YouTube videos online that can help you get set up and start filling up your pool quickly.

Although this is technically an inflatable pool, it does requires maintenance and proper care to ensure it lasts for more than just one summer.

"This is the pool we've had up in our Florida backyard for years now. With daily maintenance and regular pump and filter cleaning, you really can make this last multiple seasons," another shopper wrote. "We keep ours covered when not in use and we float a chlorine tablet around it at all times. We run the pump all day every day, turning it off only at night. The blow-up ring got damaged by one of our dogs, but that was the first time we have ever had a 'fail' of any kind with an Intex pool. Do not get the cheaper off-brands. This one is a quality item, put together well, and strong enough to withstand harsh Florida summers! $250 is a little ridiculous and has been run up by the pandemic, but still worth it for a summer of cool splashes in your own backyard."

Verdict

If you have the backyard space and want something more substantial than a kiddie pool but aren't willing to invest in a permanent pool, the Intex Easy Set Pool might be for you.

It requires some work and daily maintenance, but is a definitely upgrade from plastic or child-size inflatable pools and allows your family to cool off and enjoy the summer together!
