Amélie is coming to Netflix next month, and this news is fantastique

Critically acclaimed French film Amélie is officially returning to streaming on Netflix in May, and this news is très bien.

C’est magnifique! The French romantic comedy that’s captured our hearts since the early aughts is finally returning to Netflix in May. The 2001 French rom-com, Amélie, which made us all want to pack up and move to Paris’s bohemian art district is officially making its grand return to the streaming platform on May 1st.

The film stars Audrey Tautou as the titular Amélie, a shy waitress in the artsy and eccentric Parisian neighborhood of Montmartre. In the film, Amélie embarks on a mission to return a long-forgotten box in her apartment to its rightful owner and in turn, decides to devote her life to bringing happiness to those around her — hopefully finding happiness for herself along the way.

Amélie, which launched Tautou to international fame, also stars Mathieu Kassovitz as the odd but charming Nino Quincampoix and a stellar supporting cast of Claire Maurier, Yolande Moreau, Jamel Debbouze, Isabelle Nanty, and Dominique Pinon. The charming and “whimsical” film, which was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, was an instant commercial and critical, winning a number of César Awards — aka the French Oscars — BAFTAs, and was nominated for five Academy Awards.

Yes, this film is French so it’s in the French language but honestly, it’s not that big of a deal to read subtitles. Maybe you’ll even pick up a word or two in French, which would be très bien.
