Dates: July 26 to August 11

The 2024 Summer Olympics are coming to the city of lights! Don’t think this is Paris’s first Olympic rodeo—the city famously hosted the Games in 1924 with 3,000 athletes from over 44 countries, causing the Olympics to become truly recognized as a world event. The more you know!

This time around, the IOC is doing its absolute best to keep the Games in line with the Paris Agreement on climate change. “The team in Paris explained how they would reduce the Games’ carbon emissions by 50 percent compared to previous editions, offset more than their residual emissions, and use their influence to develop long-term carbon compensation projects,” the IOC said in a press release.

So what can we expect from the Paris Olympic Games? Tons—and I mean TONS–of green initiatives. For starters, the Olympic Committee is doing its best to make sure that 95 percent of the sporting venues where the Games will take place already exist or are temporary structures—that way, massive cleanup can be avoided after the events are over.

2026 Winter Olympics: Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo

Dates: February 6 to February 22

Milan might be a fabulous Italian city for shopping, but it’s about to become an amazing location for watching the Olympic Games! Milan is getting to host the Winter Olympics for the first time ever and is sharing the hosting duties with ski town Cortina d'Ampezzo, which had the privilege of doing so back in 1956. Expect sustainability to be at the top of the agenda again, as 13 of the 14 venues will be temporary or existing structures.

Also expect for athletes and commentators to be dressed to the nines when they’re not working—Cortina d’Ampezzo is well known for its ski fashion, and there are tons of archival images to prove it. BRB, saving these to my cute winter outfit inspiration Pinterest board:

Dates: July 21 to August 6

Americans, our time is now (well, JK, it’s actually in seven years)—the Summer Olympics are coming back to the United States for the first time in 32 years! USA hosted the Olympic Games back in 1932 and 1984, but things are going to be a biiit different this time. Per LA28.org, no new structures will be built for the Games and existing parks in the greater Los Angeles area will be used for the sporting events. As for the Olympic Athletes Village? Yep, that’ll be happening at the University of California, so…expect that to get messy AF.

Dates: February 8 to February 24

So, technically details about the 2030 Winter Olympics are still up in the air. The final decision about the host city will be made next year at the 140th IOC Session in Mumbai, India. As of right now, the contenders include, Sapporo, Japan (which hosted the 1972 Winter Games), Vancouver-Whistler, British Columbia, Canada (which hosted together in 2010), and Barcelona-Andorra–Pyrenees, Spain, Andorra and France with a very creative joint bid to share hosting duties. Salt Lake City, UT is also still technically on the short list to host again 2030 (it was the host city for the 2002 Winter Olympics), but is also reportedly considering focusing its bid on 2034 instead.

Dates: July 23 to August 8

According to the Olympics' website, Australia has a very special relationship with the Games—it's one of just two countries that have sent athletes to compete at every modern Olympics (which, impressive). The 2032 Summer Olympics will also mark Australia's third time hosting (Sydney in 2000 and Melbourne in 1956, to save you the Google).
