Winter will be here before you know it, which means now is the time to stock up on cold-weather essentials. In a perfect world, your closet would be filled with clothes that are warm, comfortable, affordable, and stylish enough for your Zoom calls. That said, finding pieces that tick all those boxes is easier said than done.

Until now, that is. Allbirds—the company behind the internet’s favorite merino wool sneakers—just released its first apparel line to offer head-to-toe comfort.

For the San Francisco-based brand, it was important to think outside of the shoebox. “Allbirds Apparel is a natural evolution of our founding tenets: To make products that feel great, embody our modern minimalist design philosophy, and are on the forefront of sustainable material innovation,” Tim Brown, the brand’s co-founder and co-CEO, said in a recent statement.

Allbirds might make “the world’s most comfortable sneakers,” but how does its apparel compare? The brand sent me the TrinoXO Tee and wool jumper to put this collection to the test.

First, this new line is good for the environment.

With Mother Nature as its muse, Allbirds’ “apparel with purpose” collection offers the same sustainability as its coveted footwear. In fact, it’s the world’s first full clothing line that labels each piece with its respective carbon footprint number.

“Launching Apparel is a huge step forward in our journey to bring carbon conscious options that don’t compromise style or quality to more closets around the world,” Brown says. “We hope that we can play a small role in bringing change to the fashion industry and beyond by showing that there is a different, more thoughtful way to create clothing consumers love.”

The collection has four pieces: A T-shirt that features a naturally derived fabric made from discarded seashells, ZQ-certified New Zealand merino wool cardigan and jumper, as well as a merino and Tencel puffer, finished with a fluorine-free durable water repellent layer. No matter what you buy, you can rest easy knowing you have Mother Nature’s seal of approval.

The clothes are also ridiculously comfortable.

As someone who has exclusively worn cozy clothes for the past seven months (haven’t we all?), I was admittedly skeptical about this new collection. However, my hesitations were quickly put to rest the moments I slipped these pieces on.

The tee has a buttery soft texture that feels more like a second skin than a constricting top. Between the muted color options and simple crew neckline, this versatile top can transition nicely from casual work calls to a virtual yoga class. It has a boxy silhouette, which makes it a great match for leggings and jeans alike. (However, if you want a more form-fitting look, I’d recommend sizing down.)

Looking to add another sweater to your growing rotation? Allbirds’ wool jumper will be the hero of your winter wardrobe. This sweater offers the best of both worlds: It’s designed to keep you cozy without causing you to overheat. (For extra warmth, it’s roomy enough to layer over an undershirt or tee, even though the sweater is true to size.) Unlike many wool sweaters, which can feel itchy against the skin, this jumper is soft to the touch and offers all-day comfort. It’s also available in three, versatile colors—gray, purple, and black—so you can wear it with virtually anything.

Where to buy Allbirds Apparel

This collection of comfortable, eco-friendly clothes starts at $48 for the TrinoXO Tee and goes up to $250 for the wool puffer. Admittedly, it’s by no means cheap. But when it comes to great clothes at a fair price, it’s a win for your wardrobe and wallet.

You can find the full line of Allbirds shoes and apparel at Allbirds.com, as well as its brick-and-mortar stores.
