Brighton's Alireza Jahanbakhsh lost for words after incredible goal against Chelsea

Alireza Jahanbakhsh was lost for words after his stunning bicycle kick rescued a point for Brighton against Chelsea.

The Iranian made it two goals in two games having struggled for form since becoming Brighton’s record signing 18 months ago.

Jahanbakhsh reacted acrobatically to fire Lewis Dunk’s header past a stunned Kepa Arrizabalaga to pull Brighton level after 84 minutes.

Chelsea had taken a first-half lead through Cesar Azpilicueta’s close-range finish.

“I can’t describe how happy I am because it’s been a very very tough time for me,” the 26-year-old, who was making just his third league appearance of the season, told BT Sport.

“I had a feeling I can make an impact on this game as well. When Dunky just gave me the ball I just tried to hit it as hard as possible and the only way was a bicycle kick.

“I’ve done it and it just went in the right direction.”

It had been suggested Jahanbakhsh might leave Brighton during this month’s transfer window but the former AZ Alkmaar player insists he’s prepared to fight for his place.

“I’ve been working hard to get my chance and it was finally there last game,” he said.

“I tried to help the team … obviously it’s been a long time that I didn’t play. But yeah I’m very happy to help the team, make the people happy out there.

“I’m very glad I turned it around and I’m really happy to help the team get points.”
