Who is Ali Wong's husband? You may have seen Ali Wong on Netflix's Always Be My Maybe or in one or both of her two stand-up comedy specials Baby Cobra and Hard Knock Wife or making appearances on Inside Amy Schumer, Savages and American Housewife. She's refreshingly hilarious and certainly isn't afraid to speak her mind about any topic.
The mother of two is well known for her comedic achievements but she also is quick to praise her family — especially husband Justin Hakuta.
But what else do we know about Justin Hakuta? New details on the man married to comedian Ali Wong:
1. His father was on TV.
Justin Hakuta is not in the entertainment industry but his father was. Ken Hakuta was well known in the late 80s and early 90s as a television personality and an inventor. As "Dr. Fad," he was the host of the kids' invention TV show The Dr. Fad Show, which ran from 1988 to 1994. The show featured things invented by kids.
2. He's a businessman.
Justin Hakuta is half Filipino and half Japanese. Since graduating from Harvard with his MBA in 2011, Justin has worked in different capacities for DIRECTV, Cargomatic Inc., and GoodRx. His most recent job update on LinkedIn is that of the Vice President of Product at GoodRx.
3. They met at a wedding.
How romantic! The couple met at the wedding of mutual friends in 2010 and hit it off immediately. Ali said she felt a “cosmic connection” and knew he was a catch. Ali and Justin married on November 27, 2014.
4. He's very supportive of his funny wife.
Most of Hakuta's posts on social media are all about Ali, her career, and how proud he is of her.
5. Their family loves spending time together.
If you follow either Ali or Justin on Instagram you can see just how much time they spend together. They take a lot of family vacations and Justin even follows Ali with their kids while she is on tour.
6. Ali gushes about him.
“I make fun of him a lot, but the truth is he’s a VP at a multimillion-dollar tech company,” Wong said.
7. Ali runs all her jokes by her husband.
"He’s an Asian unicorn; there’s nobody like him. I have to run jokes by him or I lose my marriage. That’s not worth a cool joke,” Wong said.
8. They get high together
In Ali Wong's memoir Dear Girls, she confessed that she and Justin tripped on drugs together during some of the more difficult times in their relationship. She specifically spoke about the time they used a hallucinogen called Ayahuasca together. Ayahuasca is a “psychedelic plant mixture that helps you heal and find answers to the questions that have been burning inside of you.” Ali and Justin traveled to Tulum, Mexico for a ceremony conducted by a shaman. She wrote: “It tasted exactly like what it was: boiled bark and leaves. I sat cross-legged, quiet in a circle with your dad and a bunch of mostly Mexican women, anxiously waiting to see the tie-dye come alive in my brain."
9. Mushrooms, too
Ali also revealed that when she had a miscarriage, she and Justin turned to psychedelic mushrooms. She wrote: “Your father held my hand through the entire experience, and afterward, we made the most out of me not being pregnant and went to do mushrooms in Ojai." She went on to joke that Hakuta “is basically my drug dealer who happens to have exquisite taste in ramen.”
