Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a few things to say to the New York Post about a story pointing out a dress she wore on The View Wednesday.

“Yep! I rent, borrow, and thrift my clothes. (It’s also environmentally sustainable!) The Post is just mad that you can look good fighting for working families,” the U.S. Representative for New York's 14th congressional district said in a tweet on Saturday. “Sequins are a great accessory to universal healthcare, don’t you agree?”

Oscasio-Cortez, 30, followed up a tweet that read, “Tempted to do a ‘woman on the street’ bit and wait outside the Republican cloak room to ask each GOP Congressman how much their tailored suits cost.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s remark came in response to the story titled “AOC wears rented luxe designer dress on The View” The article points out that the congresswoman sported a sequined leopard-print dress reportedly from the designer Teri Jon by Rickie Freeman, which originally retailed for $580 at Saks Fifth Avenue. The price has since dropped to $232, according to the Saks website. The story included a singular tweet that appeared to criticize the politician’s outfit.

People on Twitter came to Ocasio-Cortez’s defense, calling her look “dope.” One user sarcastically wrote, “AOC wore something that wasn’t scraps of wool held together by paperclips and has the audacity to call herself a progressive? No shame.”

Feminist author Dr. Naomi Wolf tweeted, “I love women in the public eye who refuse to be bullied about their appearance.”

Blondie’s Debbie Harry added, “Get a @gucci endorsement, wear the super expensive stuff and watch the @nypost burst into flames.”

This isn’t the first time that Ocasio-Cortez has been attacked for how she spends money on her appearance. Last year, she responded to critics who tried to shame her for paying nearly $300 for a haircut and lowlights at a Washington, D.C. salon.

“40 million Americans live in poverty under today’s extreme inequality, yet the right-wing want you to blame Democratic socialism for their own moral failures,” she tweeted in response. “Our policies, like Medicare for All, advance prosperity for working people. They’re just mad we look good doing it.”

“....I wonder if Republicans care about corruption as much as they care about a woman’s cut and color,” Ocasio-Cortez said in another tweet.
