Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is no stranger to a confrontation on Twitter. But this time, she’s addressing an ex-politician who had criticism of the representative-elect’s alleged comparison between her election victory and putting a man on the moon.
According to a U.K. Daily Mail article reposted by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Ocasio-Cortez attended an environmentalist event on Friday where she spoke about the significance of her Nov. 6 victory and even seemingly equated it to a number of landmarks in U.S. history.
“We’ve done what we thought was impossible,” she told the crowd. “We went to the moon. We electrified the nation. We established civil rights. We enfranchised the country. We dig deep, and we did it. We did it when no one else thought that we could. That’s what we did when so many of us won an election this year.”
After becoming the youngest woman elected to Congress, Ocasio-Cortez’s victory was a signal to her supporters that she had the momentum to push forward with a plan for what many are calling the “Green New Deal.” Huckabee, however, believes that the 29-year-old Democrat and her politics are “looney.”
Ocasio-Cortez compares her election to moon landing. Huh? Big difference. Moon landing was LUNAR, not LOONEY; Moon landing done by ppl who knew what they were doing…those who elected someone who thought there were 3 branches of Congress did NOT. https://t.co/Kc3nvvByN3

“Moon landing was LUNAR, not LOONEY,” Huckabee tweeted. “Moon landing done by ppl who knew what they were doing…those who elected someone who thought there were 3 branches of Congress did NOT.”
Just a few hours later, Ocasio-Cortez responded to the former governor to clarify her statement in relation to her proposed plan. She also told Huckabee to “leave the false statements to” his daughter, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
“Also, you haven’t been a Governor of any state for 10+ years now,” Ocasio-Cortez concluded.
A Green New Deal will take a level of ambition + innovation on the scale of the moon landing. We’ve been done it before, and can do it again.
Leave the false statements to Sarah Huckabee. She’s much better at it.

According to those responding to both Ocasio-Cortez’s tweet and Huckabee’s, many people seem to agree that it’s time he moved on.
She won. Get over it.

Who knew a former governor would try to become relevant again by picking on a freshman Congresswoman on Twitter.#itsnotworking

It's rare for a freshman to be attacked as viciously as you have. That means they're scared of you.

Mike Huckabee is no longer relevant to any political conversation. No need to reply.
