Alexander McQueen praised for including plus-size models in runway show: 'It takes all shapes'

Alexander McQueen is earning praise for featuring plus-size models in its latest runway show.

With Paris Fashion Week in full swing, Alexander McQueen’s show on Monday, titled “Love Letter to Women,” gave audience members the chance to enjoy the design house’s use of bold colors and patterns. But its size-inclusive casting also turned heads. In the dozens of videos circulating from the show, models Jill Kortleve and Paloma Elsesser are strutting down the runway in the label’s designs.

Elsesser, who was wearing a red and black dress, shared a video of herself on the catwalk on her Instagram Stories, as well as a message to designer Sarah Burton in a post for “including me in your exquisite tapestry of a show.”

Kortleve wrote a sweet message on Instagram to thank the label and the team behind it for the opportunities it has given her.

Kortleve’s followers sent messages of support as well.

“The world needs you, your message is made of beauty, goodness and prosperity, the most significant things, forever,” one fan wrote.

“You are such an inspiration,” another person commented.

Fellow plus-size model Celine Denefleh wrote, “You are amazing.”

Many show attendees took to social media after the show to voice praise for its casting on social media.

Lisa Armstrong, who is a fashion director for the Telegraph, posted a photo of Elsesser coming down the runway, writing, “It takes all shapes ... more of this please everyone.”

Tyler McCall, the editor in chief of Fashionista.com, shared her thoughts about the show on Twitter.

Vanessa Friedman, fashion director and chief fashion critic at the New York Times, shared a video of the show’s finale, writing, “Finale of the #AlexanderMcQueen show, which Sarah Burton called a “love letter to women and to colleagues, families and friends.”
