Alex Trebek Just Announced Some Big Changes to 'Jeopardy!' When It Returns This Fall

From Woman's Day

After months and months of missing Alex Trebek's dear face on our nightly screens, the Jeopardy! host announced that the show is finally coming back — with some exciting changes. Season 37 of the game show will premiere on Sept. 14, and in a promo video Trebek says "We've made some changes, and I think you're gonna like them."

One major change to the show is that Ken Jennings, winner of the Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time tournament, is officially joining the Jeopardy! team. The video promises "entire categories presented by the G.O.A.T. himself."

But in case Jennings' involvement has you thinking that he might be replacing Trebek, who has been battling pancreatic cancer, you have no need to worry. Trebek is quick to reassure fans saying, "Don't worry, I'll still be the host."

Since the announcement, fans have been reacting with a ton of excitement for the show's return. "OMG @KenJennings has my fondest wish come true? No one wants Alex to leave until he's ready but if you are his successor I will be one happy 30 year Jeopardy fan! Will be watching every chance I get," commented one fan.

"Can't wait. Words cannot express how much I love Alex Trebek and this show. Will enjoy seeing Ken Jennings also!" said another. "Ken continues to live every trivia nerd's dream. Bravo!" wrote one viewer.

"I believe we are the first quiz show to come back on the air in the COVID-19 era," Trebek said in a statement. "On a personal level, I'm excited because it gets me out of the house. It gives me something to do on a regular basis, and I was missing that."

To come back after the show's pandemic-enforced hiatus, the film crew has had to implement some changes. The stage has been rearranged to allow for social distancing between the three contestant podiums, and the podiums sit farther away from Trebek's lectern. Additionally, Trebek, the contestants, and the crew will abide by current government guidelines and protocols to make sure everyone stays safe.

The video ends with Trebek saying "I'm looking forward to seeing you," and honestly, Alex, we were thinking the exact same thing.
