Alex Rodriguez Posted a Very Telling Video Right Before He and J.Lo Confirmed Their Split

Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez confirmed their breakup on Thursday, April 15—but an Instagram Stories post from Rodriguez the day before may have hinted at it.

On April 14, Rodriguez shared a video to his IG of several photos he’s taken with Lopez. There’s also one of a heart in the sand with “Jennifer + Alex” written inside it. (This is, presumably, from their beachside engagement, but who’s to say for sure?) A sappy Coldplay song is playing in the background, and in the corner of the video is a heart with Lopez’s Instagram handle. At first glance, this is just a sweet tribute—but now knowing about the breakup, was this a farewell-to-the-relationship post? Was Rodriguez trying to warn us that something was coming?

Check out the video for yourself, below.

If anything, Rodriguez’s IG Story confirms what he and Lopez said in their breakup statement: They still care deeply for each other. “We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” the couple said in a joint message to Today. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez met in 2005, when she was still married to Marc Anthony. They started dating in 2017 and were engaged by March 2019. Wedding plans were put on pause because of the coronavirus, and in early 2021 rumors started circulating they had broken up. The couple denied this via a short statement to People on March 1 but a little over a month later announced they’re splitting for good. It’s the end of an era! A Coldplay-soundtracked Instagram story feels appropriate.
