Wednesday marked the 38th annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Started in 1987 by the United States Congress, the day honors all that women have done and continue to do over the years for the sports world.
In a time when women’s sports is garnering increasing attention and recognition, it served as a great reminder that the work of women in sports should not be undervalued. Alex Aust understands that. The pro lacrosse player took to Instagram to voice her support for the national observance.
Aust’s post included a handful of incredibly fierce photos of her on the field in her Athlete’s Unlimited Pro Lacrosse gear. The league, which is based in Baltimore, is composed of four teams. Aust has played for two of them during her three seasons.
“HAPPY NATIONAL GIRLS and WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY!” Aust exclaimed in her Instagram caption commemorating the important observance. “Sports have given and taught me almost everything in life - from confidence, purpose and passion to relationships, heartbreaks, and having fun. Here’s to being the little girl who fell in love with the game forever!”
Not only is she a pro lacrosse player, but Aust continues to support women’s athletic endeavors as an Under Armour athlete and as co-owner of Finish Line Lacrosse, an organization dedicated to providing clinics, camps and resources to up-and-coming players.
She’s a prime example of the kind of women in sports that deserve commendation.
