A picture of her grandmother in the ’80s, along with some artwork from Spanish painter Julio Romero de Torres, served as inspiration for Alejandra Alonso Rojas’ beautiful collection. Embracing a sustainable approach, she used upcycled materials to experiment with knitting techniques, and revisited some of her signature styles with new proportions to make them more wearable.

The look: Timeless, feminine sophistication with an urban, arty twist.

Quote of note: “I have never missed Spain so much in my life like now,” said the Madrid native and New York-based designer. “I wanted to inject Spanish references in the collection, but revisited in a modern way. That’s why I chose a polka dot pattern, but not the classic one. This is intentionally imperfect, it’s more artistic and comes in unexpected color combinations.”

Standout pieces: Rich sweaters with polo collars tucked into draped silk pencil skirts; moiré linen three-piece suits; silk draped pants; fringed silk knit minidresses and tops; robe coats with matching capri pants; mini leather skirts paired with blouses with romantic maxi scalloped collars.

Takeaway: One of the most promising designers on the New York fashion scene, Alonso Rojas continued to combine her European aesthetic sensibility with the dynamic elegance of the city that never sleeps.
