Alec Baldwin House Hunts While Holed up in Vermont Bed and Breakfast

Alec Baldwin has a way of attracting negative attention. In fact, he’s kind of a magnet for controversy. As it turns out, so is his wife, Hilaria.

In 1995, the 2004 Oscar nominee, who won an Emmy in 2017 for his portrayal of Donald Trump on “Saturday Night Live,” got into a scuffle with a photographer attempting to snap pap photos of his then wife, Kim Basinger, and their baby daughter, Ireland. A decade or so later he was raked over the public coals when a vicious voicemail was leaked in which he called then 11- or 12-year-old Ireland, now in her mid 20s, “a thoughtless little pig.”

The “30 Rock” star, who co-starred in the 2021 Peacock miniseries “Dr. Death,” was removed from an airplane in 2011 after he became belligerent with a flight attendant who asked him to put his iPad away during takeoff — he was apparently enmeshed in a game of Words with Friends — and the following year he assaulted a photographer in lower Manhattan who attempted to snap some pics just after he and Hilaria obtained their marriage license at city hall.

In 2018, he was arrested after he got into a physical altercation with someone over a parking spot in front of his Greenwich Village apartment building, and last year he angrily weighed in on Instagram after his wife became a public laughingstock when it was revealed her claims of Spanish heritage were untrue. (Born in Boston and recently described in the NY Post as the “the Rachel Dolezal of the Hamptons,” Hilaria, whose given name is Hillary, says she spent a great deal of time in Spain with her family growing up.)

And now, after accidentally shooting two people when a prop gun improperly discharged on the New Mexico set of the western film “Rust,” the poop has really hit Baldwin’s fan. Who can blame the veteran actor and the former yoga instructor, then, for packing up their Manhattan-based family and heading for the relative seclusion of Vermont. (No charges have been filed in the shooting, though an inquiry continues as to how a live round was placed in the prop gun that injured director Joel Souza and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.)

It’s no secret the Baldwin clan have been holed up in the town of Manchester, where they’ve been spotted eating out, grabbing coffee, giving a bizarre roadside interview, and posting Halloween pics on Instagram, and where word on the local street is they’ve rented out a former bed and breakfast that is now offered as a whole-house vacation rental that goes for about $700 per night.

Promo materials for the three-acre property, pictured above and below, show the 4,800-square-foot home has six bedroom suites, each with its own cutesy name and a private bath, and many with a gas fireplace and/or jetted tub. Tidy, spacious and well maintained, if not exactly as deluxe as one might expect a luxe-living celeb like Baldwin to shack up, even in a moment of crisis, the home includes a combo living and dining room and a big kitchen with two full-size fridges, no doubt a bonus for a family of eight. A huge basement-level entertainment area is complete with a 65-inch TV, a pool table, and a bar the owners have cheekily named the Thirsty Moose. Behind the house, beyond a huge patio with a fire pit and grill, the tree-ringed grounds are picturesquely park-like with rolling lawns.

While it seems unlikely the Baldwins will remain in Vermont permanently, they have nonetheless been spotted house hunting in the area. And of course, with six young children, and no doubt a nanny or two, the Baldwins need a big house. One of the homes they toured, priced at $3.6 million, sits on about 13.5 drop-dead-gorgeous acres and measures nearly 14,000 square feet with nine all en-suite bedrooms and a total of a dozen bathrooms, plenty of room for them all to disappear for a while.

When the Baldwins do decide to leave Vermont, they could easily retreat to their 8-plus-acre spread in the sleepy Amagansett area of the Hamptons, or they could return to Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, where the couple owns a huge penthouse composed of four contiguous units, including a 4,100-square-foot penthouse, at the low-key but high-toned Devonshire House in Greenwich Village. The various units were purchased in a series of transactions between the fall of 2011 and the latter days of 2019, for a total outlay of more than $16 million, and last year the sprawling aerie was reportedly being quietly shopped around off market at an undisclosed price.
