Akron Judge David Hamilton receives humanitarian award

David Hamilton, the administrative/preside judge for Akron Municipal Court, is the recipient of Harold K. Stubbs Humanitarian Award for his work in law.

Hamilton will be recognized during the virtual Harold K. Stubbs Awards Celebration at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The award, sponsored by St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church of Akron, recognizes those who have made contributions in areas such as social action, government, business, medicine and law. It is named for Stubbs, an Akron judge who died in 1989 and was actively involved with St. Paul church.

Between eight and 10 college scholarships will be presented during the event. The program has awarded more than $4 million in aid.

Hamilton, who is in his first term as an Akron judge, started the COMPASS program that is geared toward steering young men onto the right path, and is the co-creator of Raising the Bar, a program aimed to encouraging minority high school students to consider careers in law.
