New Airline Routes Coming Soon That You'll Want to Book
There’s still plenty of summer left, but if you’re determined to get out of town on a plane the time to book that seat is now. Here are some new flights and soon-to-launch routes to help get that vacation plan underway.
Silicon Valley to New York City
On July 6, Alaska Airlines began offering daily nonstop service between Mineta San Jose International Airport and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. The new flight arrives at JFK’s Terminal 7, which is new home of the first Alaska Lounge on the east coast.
Seattle to Pittsburgh
Looking forward to fall, Alaska Airlines will start nonstop service between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Pittsburgh International Airport on September 6. When it kicks off, the new service will be the only nonstop offered between the Emerald City and Steel City.
L.A., New York City, and Fort Lauderdale to Madrid
European low-cost carrier Norwegian Air launched service between Los Angeles International Airport and Madrid-Barajas Airport on July 15 and between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Madrid on July 17. Both flights operate four times each week.
Looking forward to fall, Norwegian plans to add twice-weekly service between Fort Lauderdale and Madrid on October 30 and twice-weekly flights between Tampa International Airport and London-Gatwick Airport on October 31.
Southwest Expanding Out of Oakland
This month Southwest Airlines added four new daily flights from Oakland International Airport. Passengers can now fly nonstop between the East Bay and San Antonio, Orlando, Minneapolis-St. Paul and Indianapolis International airports. (A fifth fresh daily nonstop - to Newark Liberty International Airport - launched in April.
More Flights Coming Soon
On October 25, just in time for Day of the Dead celebrations (October 31-November 2), JetBlue will launch daily nonstop flights to Mexico City from both New York’s JFK International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport. To kick things off, the carrier is offering fares starting at $150 one way from New York and $153 one way from Boston. (JetBlue also flies to Mexico City from both Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.)
In early November, Singapore Airlines will begin flying nonstop between Los Angeles International Airport and Singapore’s Changi Airport using the airline’s new A350-900ULR (ultra-long range) aircraft. Starting November 2, there will be three flights a week, with daily flights beginning on November 9.
To celebrate the new nonstop from LAX to SIN, Singapore Airlines is offering discounts of up to 26 percent on business class fares from both Los Angeles and San Francisco to Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and select other cities. Tickets can be booked through July 29 for travel from November 2, 2018 through May 31, 2019.
And Cathay Pacific just announced that, starting April 1, 2019, it will begin flying nonstop between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Hong Kong four times a week. The new SEA–HKG route will be serviced by the airline’s new Airbus A350-900 aircraft and will be the first direct route between Seattle and Hong Kong.
