The Distance threatens everything. It’s approaching, a mysterious force that will destroy the life Adora knows. It’s coming for her. She dreams of it. But she can stop it… with some help. That quest sits at the center of original graphic novel Adora and the Distance by writer Marc Bernardin and artist Ariela Kristantina, featuring a foreword by Damon Lindelof. Bernardin’s been developing this story for over a decade, his love for his autistic daughter inspiring him.
Bernardin says, “According to the CDC, one in 54 children in America are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. That’s millions and millions of kids—and millions more parents and siblings who have someone with autism in their lives. I didn’t want to tell a story about those of us who love their autistic friends or family members. Instead, I wanted to try and imagine the story one of those kids could be telling about themselves, about the adventures they’re taking inside their own mind. It’s the story I most want to hear.”
The story is magical, overflowing with warmth and whimsy. Adora carries this tale so beautifully. And Nerdist has an exclusive preview. Here, Adora meets the characters who will help her on her quest to stop the Distance. You can check out the pages below:
Kristantina’s art has a life of its own. The gorgeous illustrations underscore Adora’s journey. They add to the richness and the emotion of it all.
Adora and the Distance arrives on June 15. It will be available at no additional cost for members of Amazon Prime, Kindle Unlimited, and comiXology Unlimited, and it will be available for purchase on the Amazon Kindle Store and comiXology.
