Adrianne Curry Opens Up About Her Uterine Surgery in Facebook Post
Model and former reality star Adrianne Curry is recovering from a myomectomy — the surgical removal of uterine fibroids — and being super open about it on Facebook, where her story is resonating with thousands of followers.
“Ok. Not gonna lie…myomectomy sucks,” she wrote from her Phoenix, Ariz., hospital bed on Thursday in what has been a long lead-up of posts around her surgery. “I was able to do 8 laps around the ward yesterday, so I was hopeful for this to be way easier. However, last night the real pain started.”
Curry, 34, who became a celeb after winning the first cycle of America’s Next Top Model and who was married for several years to Christopher Knight (her co-star in the My Fair Brady reality series), is now dating gamer and actor Matthew Rhode. She has no children, and while myomectomy is often done to help facilitate pregnancy, she recently reacted to a commenter’s question about whether or not she was having the surgery to keep the possibility of pregnancy open by responding, “No.”
According to the Mayo Clinic’s entry about the procedure, “The surgeon’s goal during myomectomy is to take out symptom-causing fibroids and reconstruct the uterus. Unlike a hysterectomy, which removes your entire uterus, a myomectomy removes only the fibroids and leaves your uterus intact.”
The model has indeed indicated in past posts that she opted for the myomectomy over a hysterectomy. “Deciding to keep my uterus or not was a pretty big event in my life, so I thought about it a lot,” she noted in response to a critic of her April 18 post, in which she referred to pre-surgery weight gain from “stress and anxiety.” That prompted the critic to point out, “I’ve seriously seen you post about this surgery a thousand times.” To which Curry responded, “I always find it odd when people point out someone is afraid like it’s a bad thing. … My feelings are my own, they are neither right or wrong, they simply are.”
In this latest post, which quickly amassed more than 1,000 reactions and hundreds of comments (many of which she responded to), and which includes a pretty stunning postsurgery selfie, Curry noted that although she hates medications and typically refuses to take them, she did this time, and was “high as f**k.” Also revealed: “Peeing…is the worst ordeal!” and “My incision is bigger than both Matthew and I were expecting….and it feels like grond, the battering ram that took down the gates of Gondor, has smashed me in it a thousand times.”
Curry added, “If this has taught me anything, it’s how much I love this man. He’s the one for me, and I hope he feels the same.” She also noted that she was hoping for a Thursday release from the hospital, “because he deserves to be more comfortable.”
This prompted her many supportive commenters to urge her to do what’s best for her recovery, posting, “Hope you get released but don’t push it,” and “stay another day if you need to, to be safe.” Another added: “Please put yourself first just this once.”
Others shared their own postsurgery advice — and many were sure to note how beautiful Curry looked, even in her current condition. As one wrote, “Girl… You look fantastic, though! Anyone who can have their eyebrows on fleek and yet be in agony is a hero in my book.”
