Adrian Board of Education to consider Adam Benschoter as full-time Springbrook principal

ADRIAN — Adrian Public Schools will likely be hiring another full-time principal when the Adrian Board of Education meets for a regular meeting Monday, May 23.

Adam Benschoter, a veteran educator and administrator, will be going in front of the Adrian school board Monday for final approval to become the principal at Springbrook Middle School, a news release from the district said. Benschoter has been serving as interim principal since March 1 after the promotion of former Springbrook Principal Nate Parker to superintendent. Benschoter is currently leading staff in the transition activities taking place for incoming sixth grade students, the release said.

“I am honored and humbled to be entrusted with the opportunity to lead Springbrook Middle School,” Benschoter said in the release. “I am excited to continue collaborating with such an amazing staff and community to lead our extraordinary students.”

Before joining the team of educators at Springbrook Middle School, Benschoter served in various administrative positions throughout the Adrian district for 11 years. He joined Springbrook in 2016 as the assistant principal “to help ensure a seamless transition when the sixth grade was added to the 7-8 building,” the release said.

“In this role, Benschoter has provided leadership in various areas such as state assessments, middle school athletics, coordinating virtual programming, mentoring students and working collaboratively with staff to ensure a positive learning environment,” the release said.

Prior to joining the Adrian schools, Benschoter taught alternative education at Manchester Community Schools and Chelsea School District. His first administrative role was with Tecumseh Public Schools where he served as athletic director and dean of students. He accepted an administrative position with Adrian in 2005 and has served the district for the past 17 years.

Benschoter holds a master's degree in educational leadership from Eastern Michigan University.

“In my six years of working with Adam, his leadership has been a key reason for the success of the middle school,” Parker said in the release. “His work in that time speaks for itself, however, his steady and experienced hand in assuring a successful transition at Springbrook in the last several months has clearly demonstrated his abilities to lead a building. In his time as interim, Benschoter has ensured that all operations are continuing, and just as importantly, has found ways to enhance systems and start the conversation on new ideas for continuing to provide a first-rate program for middle school students.”

Veteran Springbrook staff member Andrea Morin-Perez said Benschoter’s skills and his clearly defined goals “will help to facilitate a smooth transition at Springbrook Middle School.”

“We are confident that the high expectations for students and staff will continue, as well as the building of meaningful and respectful relationships within our school,” she said in the release.

With Benschoter’s impending approval, nearly all of the vacant school leadership position in the Adrian district will have been filled. The Lincoln Elementary School principal position is the next opening for the district to tackle. That administrative post will need to be filled for the 2022-23 school year due to former Principal Sam Skeels accepting the high school principal post.
