Adidas Reveals Details About When Employees Will Return to HQ

With the return to office looming for many major businesses, Adidas has confirmed some new details about how it will bring its workforce back to US headquarters in Portland, Ore.

The footwear maker confirmed to FN in a statement that it plans to increase capacity on its campus to 50% on August 2 on a voluntary basis. Adidas is currently operating at 25% capacity with a system that invites employees to come in on a voluntary basis via an online reservation tool.

Adidas said that its employees’ health and safety is the company’s “number one priority.”

“Employees who choose to verify that they are fully vaccinated are not required to wear face covers inside our U.S. offices, unless otherwise required by local law,” Adidas said in a statement. “We will continue to share regular updates with our employees, and we are fully committed to supporting each individual’s transition back to the office as we navigate this change together.”

Adidas is one of many companies targeting a broader return to office in the fall. Beaverton, Oregon-based Nike said in May that it would introduce a hybrid work model in September that will allow employees to work from home up for to two days a week.

“Nike’s business and culture thrive when we collaborate, create and learn together. We plan for office-based employees to return to the workplace under a new, flexible model, balancing individual needs with the needs of the business,” the company wrote in a statement emailed to FN. “The timelines and details will vary by country and location.”

Outdoor retailer REI Co-op announced in February that it would test a remote working model for up to five days a week from its future satellite offices located in Issaquah, Wash.

Despite forecasts for returning to work, the spread of the Delta variant has placed certain plans in flux. With the variant accounting for 83% of new Covid cases, some offices have already delayed their returns. Apple told employees on July 19 that its return-to-office date had been pushed from September to October.
