Opening night for any show is electric, but the stakes were higher for the much-anticipated start of “Weekends with Adele” after the originally scheduled shows were canceled just a day before they were slated to begin in January.

On Friday, Adele’s Las Vegas residency finally premiered at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, triumphantly kicking off its five-month-long run. Celebrities and dedicated fans — some who returned to Las Vegas after visiting in January for the first canceled show — filled the venue's 4,000-plus seats. We were excited to see Adele take the stage and find out whether or not the show was truly worth the wait.

"Weekends with Adele" starts small and builds to an epic finish, covering Adele’s top hits with plenty of banter in between. The show started with a simple, black A-frame set for the iconic ballad “Hello,” and midway through the song, massive screens surrounding the audience illuminated with a close-up of the singer. The screens were just the first of several exciting elements that make the residency really special.

During “I Drink Wine,” the A-frame walls moved to the side to show the band and a large, glittery chandelier. During “Skyfall,” a screen lifts to reveal a 24-piece string section in an impressive three-level grid on stage. For “When We Were Young,” Adele walked through the crowd, asking audience members about their favorite memories against a backdrop of photos of the singer throughout her life. Rainfall and bursts of flames during “Set Fire to the Rain,” choreographed lanterns bobbing above the audience for “Hold On,” and her surprise exit in a cascade of confetti were among the show’s top moments.

Over-the-top productions featuring the best artists in relatively intimate spaces set Las Vegas residencies apart from large-venue tour shows, but “Weekends with Adele” raised the bar, in part because the audience got to see the singer in a more personal light. She was gracious, endearing, funny, and reflective; Adele apologized for the delay, emotionally thanked the audience for being there, poked fun at herself (pointing out the “posh socks” she was wearing at one point and blasting a t-shirt gun into the audience), and recalled memories from childhood and her career. And of course, her magnetic stage presence and phenomenal voice make the residency a must for Adele fans.

The Colosseum at Caesars Palace is the perfect setting for Adele’s residency. The venue — built to look like its namesake Roman Colosseum on the outside — was first created for Celine Dion’s residency and has seen several incredible residencies since. This month, Garth Brooks’ 2023 residency was announced for the venue. Another fab thing about Las Vegas residencies? Everything you need is right at your fingertips.

During our trip to Vegas to attend the opening night of “Weekends with Adele,” we stayed at Nobu Hotel at Caesars Palace, just steps from the newly renovated lobby and The Colosseum, and took advantage of all the amenities at the property. Where else in the world can you have a spa day, get pastries at a new Dominique Ansel outpost, shop around a mall, eat and drink at celebrity chef-helmed and Michelin-starred restaurants, and see Adele in concert without ever leaving the building? We had the ultimate girls’ weekend with an over-the-top dinner at Guy Savoy and drinks at Vanderpump Cocktail Garden when we arrived on Thursday, blowouts at Hairdreams Salon by Michael Boychuck and dinner at Amalfi by Bobby Flay before seeing Adele on Friday, and recovering at Qua Baths And Spa on Saturday before dinner at Nobu and catching Steve Aoki at Omnia.
