From Town & Country

I don't know why anyone would ever want to put another adaptation of Little Women into the universe since the 1994 version starring Winona Ryder, Kristen Dunst, Claire Danes, and Christian Bale is perfection, as evidenced by the very old-school trailer below:

But if you're going to make a new film version of Louisa May Alcott's iconic 1869 novel, getting the Ladybird crew back together isn't such a bad place to start.

Today, several new posters for Greta Gerwig's Little Women were released, heightening the anticipation for the movie's Christmas premiere. In addition to a composite image, which highlights a group of Little Women's stars, character posters offer a look at some key roles: Emma Watson as Meg, Eliza Scanlen as Beth, Florence Pugh as Amy, Laura Dern as Marmee, Meryl Streep as Aunt March, Saoirse Ronan as Jo, and Timothée Chalamet as Laurie. Check them all out below.

This comes after the official trailer's August debut, which introduced each of the March sisters, highlighting the tension between Jo (played by Saoirse Ronnan) and Laurie (Timothée Chalamet) and, of course showcasing Meryl Streep's wit in the role of Aunt March.

Before that, Emma Watson shared the first official photos of the project on Instagram, a series which included not only a portrait of her character Meg, but also shots of the four March sisters together. (Seriously just keep swiping; every image she shared is great.)

Watson has also shared a few behind-the-scenes pictures from set, including a sweet photo of the cast paired with a quote from the original book, "I could never love anyone as I love my sisters."

And this shot of her working with Laura Dern.

Her initial sneak peeks came a few months after Chalamet posted a blurry photo on his Instagram of director Greta Gerwig and Ronnan rehearsing. "littlewomen. (Rehearsal pic couple weeks ago :)" he wrote in the caption.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news back in June of last year that Gerwig is directing the film, which will star not only Ronan, Chalamet, Dern, and Streep, but also Florence Pugh, and Bob Odenkirk.

Little Women is having something of a cultural renaissance as of late. A mini-series adaptation starring Angela Lansbury as Aunt March and Maya Hawke as Jo ran on Masterpiece PBS this spring. And a modern retelling of the story starring Lea Thompson debuted in theaters this past fall. Watch the trailer for that film here:
