Adam Sandler Talked About His Oscars Snub in His Independent Spirit Awards Speech

From Esquire

Adam Sandler was tipped as a contender in this year’s Best Actor Oscars race for his performance in Uncut Gems. But when he failed to land a nomination, Sandler brushed off the snub with a Twitter quip. "Bad news: Sandman gets no love from the Academy," he wrote. "Good news: Sandman can stop wearing suits."

But Sandler spoke too soon on the formalwear front, because he was forced to don a jacket Saturday night and attend the Independent Spirit Awards. And when he won Best Male Lead, he took the stage and delivered a speech that showed the Academy just what it will be missing on Sunday night.

Sandler saluted the night’s host, Aubrey Plaza. "Aubrey and I did a movie entitled Funny People eleven years ago. That was actually the last time critics pretended not to hate me for five fucking minutes," he said. "Catch you in another eleven years, Aubrey!"

He also shouted out his fellow Best Male Lead nominees, "who will now and forever be known as the guys who lost to fucking Adam Sandler."

And Sandler once again addressed being overlooked by the Academy, in equally hilarious style:

A few—you know, a few weeks back, when I was quote-unquote snubbed by the Academy, it reminded of when I briefly attended high school and was overlooked for the coveted yearbook superlative category Best Looking. That accolade was given to a jean-jacket-wearing featherhead douchebag by the name of Skipper Jenkins. But my classmates did honor me with the allegedly less-prestigious designation of Best Personality. And tonight, as I look around this room, I realize, the Independent Spirit Awards are the Best Personality awards of Hollywood. So let all those feathered hair douchebag motherfuckers get their Oscars tomorrow night! Their handsome good looks will fade in time, while our independent personalities will shine on forever!
