All Aboard the Tequila Train

Drinking wine is enjoyable in pretty much every location, but I would venture a guess that drinking wine on a train in Napa Valley, as beautiful serenely floats by you outside the curtained the window, elevates the experience (unless its similar to the wine train from that episode of Bob’s Burgers, in which case maybe it’s more raucous that I’m giving it credit for). That’s probably why the Napa Valley Wine Train ended up being such a hit. If you’re not a wine drinker, but you still want to find out what it's like to get drunk on an antiquated—but none-the-less very elegant—mode of transportation, you’re in luck, because the Wine Train is introducing a whole new experience: the Tequila Train.

There's already a tequila train running in Mexico, but Napa Valley's version is, appropriately enough, rolling out of the station for the first time on Cinco de Mayo, offering guests a classier way to celebrate than the typical beer-soaked parties you might be used to attending on this unofficial holiday.

This is what you’ll experience on the three-hour trip: A four-course gourmet dinner, accompanied by a Casa Dragones tequila tasting and a signature cocktail, all accompanied by Flamenco guitar. After that, the Tequila Train will host just two more events, on the Day of the Dead and National Tequila Day. Like a fairy godmother appearing to make your dreams come true, the Tequila Train is a rare and fleeting phenomenon that we should all cherish.

Tickets for the Tequila Train’s Cinco de Mayo celebration are already on sale (find more information here), but they might not last long. If you miss out, the Wine Train is taking reservations for a number of events throughout the summer, including the Blue Note Express Music & Dinner Train, which features legendary jazz musician Kenny G as the opening act. Yes, you read that right. You can drink wine while Kenny G plays you the saxophone. I’m sure you don’t need any more convincing.
