Good Doctor fans, get ready to scrub back in at St. Bonaventure Hospital — season 5 is officially happening.

Over the past season, relationships have been at the center of the hit ABC medical drama. Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Lea (Paige Spara) have grown closer through their shared love and grief. Meanwhile, Claire (Antonia Thomas) got the chance to reconnect with her estranged father. Park (Will Yun Lee) and Morgan (Fiona Gubelmann) are still trying to figure out how to coexist, while it looks like Lim (Christina Chang) might have found love again.

Given that there’s never a dull day at the fictional San Jose-based hospital, we can’t wait to see what happens next. If you’re in the same boat, here’s what we know about season 5 of The Good Doctor:

When will season 5 of The Good Doctor premiere?

The Good Doctor is returning to ABC on Monday, September 27 at 10 p.m. ET. New episodes will then likely air most Monday nights throughout the fall with a season 5 finale probably happening in March of 2022.

Who will be in the cast of The Good Doctor season 5?

After being introduced as doctors competing for surgical resident positions, actors Noah Galvin (Dr. Asher Wolke) and Bria Samoné Henderson (Dr. Jordan Allen) have been promoted from guest stars to official main cast members. In addition, Mexican actor Osvaldo Benavides, who was first seen in the two-part season 4 finale as Dr. Mateo Rendón Osma, has also been added to the main cast roster. According to Deadline, Mateo will deal with his past when "some rash actions during his residency will be back to haunt him and could complicate things" next season.

As for the rest of The Good Doctor cast, here’s who we predict will return for season 5:

  • Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy

  • Paige Spara as Lea Dilallo

  • Fiona Gubelmann as Dr. Morgan Reznick

  • Will Yun Lee as Dr. Alex Park

  • Christina Chang as Dr. Audrey Lim

  • Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews

  • Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman

If you noticed Antonia Thomas (Dr. Claire Browne) missing from the list, it’s not a mistake. After four years and four seasons, the British actress announced she's leaving The Good Doctor. That said, she’s open to returning as a guest star.

"Leaving is a bittersweet thing for me because the last four years have been absolutely incredible," Antonia told Deadline. "It has not been an easy decision for me to leave, so I absolutely would love to come back every now and then and say hi… I’m very much looking forward to that.”

She continued: “I think, ultimately, for me, it’s about coming to the point where I think we’ve really run the gamut of different things that Claire can have gone through. I’m now really excited to explore different creative opportunities."
