AARP Hosts 'Movies For Grown-Ups' Three Films Lead Nominations
The AARP awards ceremony, 'Movies For Grown-Ups' will take place on January 11 at the Beverly Wiltshire in Beverly Hills, Calif. hosted by Tony Danza.
Sony’s "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" and "Little Women" and Netflix’s "Marriage Story" snagged five nominations each, with Lionsgate’s Bombshell netting four. All of the above will in the marquee Best Picture/Best Movie for Grownups category, along with A24’s "The Farewell", which scored three nominations overall.
Earlier this month, the group set Annette Bening to receive its AARP Movies for Grown-Ups Career Achievement Award.

Other films that received nominations are"The Irishman", "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood," and "The Two Popes."
Netflix's The Two Popes, set for limited theatrical release Wednesday and streaming Dec. 20, snagged noms for best picture/best movie for grown-ups, best actor for Pryce, best supporting actor for Hopkins, best director for Meirelles, readers' choice, best buddy picture and best screenwriter for Anthony McCarten.
Shirley Maclaine who won the AARP Career Achievement Award in 2018 said, "By golly, because of the long lives people are living,“ MacLaine told AARP, “we’ve got to make more movies that address themselves to people over 60.”
Annette Bening said that she is very honored to receive the AARP award.
“I’m really honored that the AARP has selected me. Especially since there are so many people that they could have recognized. These awards acknowledge the kinds of movies we need and don’t get enough of. In that way, the awards are advocates for good moviemaking, for meaningful moviemaking. And to be a part of this is very gratifying.”
