Aaron Boone sleeps at Yankee Stadium between games after 14-inning Friday marathon
Sometimes the prospect of dealing with New York City traffic is just too much.
That sometimes was Friday night for Yankees manager Aaron Boone.
Boone’s Yankees had just lost a grind of a 14-inning game to the AL East rival Baltimore Orioles on a grand slam from Pedro Alvarez, a five-plus hour game that went into Saturday morning.
With a 1 p.m. scheduled first pitch for Saturday’s game against the Orioles, Boone decided to pull a George Costanza and sleep at Yankee Stadium.

Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner spoke to the stress of playing and losing a game like that and having to get up and turn around to play another just a few hours later. It sounds like he would have liked the option to sleep at the stadium as well.
Gardner: "It's easy to go home and go to sleep if you win. When you lose a game like that, it makes it somewhat more difficult. I remember laying in bed last night and I don't even remember what time it was, but wishing and hoping and praying that I could somehow fall asleep."

Sleep or no sleep, Gardner had a big Saturday at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and two RBI as the Yankees bounced back for an 8-3 win over the Orioles. After using eight pitchers on Saturday, New York got a much-needed six-inning effort from winning pitcher Sonny Gray.
Maybe Boone — and Costanza — are onto something.
