Visiting the salon should be a relaxing and renewing experience. Whether you are trying a fresh hairstyle or getting glammed up for a big event, this is a place where you should be able to let your hair down, literally.

Sadly, this wasn’t always the case for 31-year-old Jamie Lopez. “I started off as a makeup artist and was highly discriminated against for being a plus-size woman,” Lopez tells Yahoo Beauty.

Instead of just complaining, Lopez decided to do something to end the discrimination she faced as a plus-size woman in the beauty industry by creating a space where women like her could feel confident and comfortable. This April, Babydoll Beauty Couture will officially open its doors as a full service salon in Las Vegas, specifically catering to plus-size women. Lopez opened the salon’s first location in Los Angeles.

“At 26 years old, I decided to make a change that would hopefully impact the world, and now at 31, I have had the pleasure of moving my dream to Las Vegas,” says Lopez.

She continues, “I was inspired by there being no place I could get my nails or hair done in Vegas that would accommodate my needs as a plus-size woman, and I decided it was time to make some changes for the plus-size women of the world.”

Lopez’s dream salon in Las Vegas will offer nail, makeup, hair extension, waxing, and spray tan services. Most salons have the same standard-size seating options, but what’s unique about Babydoll Couture salon is that there will be pedicure benches that can hold up to 800 pounds and are wide enough for women with up to 85-inch hips to comfortably sit in. There’s also a waxing bench that can support up to 600 pounds.

Outside of her passion for the new salon opening, Lopez also enjoys singing and designing clothing for her fashion line, also called Babydoll Couture. “It makes me very upset to be mistreated because of my size, and not have a place where I can get beautiful,” she says. “When women walk away from getting services done at my salon, I want them to feel beautiful, confident, and sexy.”
