A #MajesticSealSelfie Might Inspire You to Take an Ugly Picture — and Even Post It

Imagine if you could have back all the hours of your life you’ve spent editing selfies. A group of bloggers is working to remove the “perfect selfie” stigma by going deep in the opposite direction. They’re posting photos with all kinds of expressions and angles and calling it the #antiselfie campaign or a #majesticsealselfie.

Everyone knows that it takes dozens of selfies to get to the selfie. (Immediately followed by a camera roll purge to hide the evidence.) With that in mind, the premise of the campaign is simple. Take one of those would-be discarded selfies that might have you caught in a blink, showing an accidental double chin, or in some other pose you normally wouldn’t share. Then go ahead and (gasp) post it.

The photos gathered under the #majesticsealselfie campaign so far are funny, full of personality, and fully inspirational. Olivia Callaghan, who goes by @selfloveliv on social media, shared her photo with a simple call to “enjoy life.” That’s a plan we everyone can get behind. “[Life’s] too short to be serious, am I right?” she wrote.

Blogger Khloe Hill jumped on board, encouraging fans to “love yourself no matter what face you are pulling or what angle you are at.” Hill tells Yahoo Beauty it was a no-brainer to join the campaign. “I love it because I do always have more bad selfies than good ones,” she says. She’s right: In addition to its body positivity, this campaign is straight up practical.

“I’m fabulous just the way I am, and that includes the less serious, less typically attractive side of me,” wrote Bee, a body-positive blogger who joined in on the fun.

You surely have a few anti-selfies on your phone. Are you ready to share them?
