A Disappearing Leg at Moschino, and Other Retouching Disasters

Moschino’s Spring 2015 campaign features models Hollie-May Sakers, Anna Ewers, and Sasha Luss frolicking in front of famed photographer Steven Meisel’s expert lens. Not such an expert? The person responsible for retouching said images who completely obliterated Luss’s left leg. This isn’t the first time major limbs have gone missing at the hands of an overzealous manipulator but it’s remarkable that given all the people that look at an image — whether it be an advertisement, magazine cover, or even a celebrity’s social media shot — before they make it to the public, they always seem to miss the most obvious details. Or are they doing it in on purpose because they know it will generate press? Call it the Urban Outfitters conundrum (always creating scandal to start a conversation). Here’s a look at various digital manipulation fails that have gotten people talking.
