A 60-Year-Old Model Just Nailed a Swimsuit Campaign

Diversity is a hot topic in the fashion industry, and it’s not just about race, size, and gender identity. It’s also about age.

To that end, online shop the Dreslyn and lingerie brand Land of Women chose 60-year-old model Yazemeenah Rossi to front the campaign for their swimwear collaboration. In the images (which Land of Women says are unretouched), Rossi is serene and ethereal, her mile-long white-silver locks cascading down her back. She poses in a selection of one-pieces, sometimes sporting very comfy-looking pants, robes, and dresses from the collection. It’s a refreshing take on a swimwear shoot and a reminder that you can look great in a swimsuit at any age. Rossi has posed for Land of Women before, previously in lingerie.

And more brands seem to be tapping into the 50+ market. For its fall Style Guide, J.Crew tapped OG model Lauren Hutton to pose alongside the likes of Joan Smalls, Amber Valletta, Liya Kebede, and others. In the pages of this year’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, you’ll find 56-year-old Nicola Griffin posing in a metallic gold bikini as part of a Swimsuits for All campaign. In 2014, American Apparel chose 62-year-old Jacky O'Shaughnessy for a lingerie ad. And who could forget Céline’s Spring 2015 campaign featuring Joan Didion, or Marc Jacobs Beauty tapping then 64-year-old Jessica Lange to front its campaign back in 2014?

We hope that older women (and men!) continue to have their moments in fashion advertising and on the runways. After all, you don’t stop wearing clothes or swimsuits as you age, and the world deserves to see just how fabulous and stylish aging can be.
