8-player football roundup: Mendon, Colon, Marcellus all win

The Mendon football team won again on Friday night, this time beating 3-1 Gobles 36-6.

It was a methodical game for the Hornets, who piled up 299 yards on the ground and 367 total.

The scoring started in the opening quarter. There, Nic Stiver hauled in a 38-yard TD pass from Luke Schinker.

The run failed, but Mendon led 6-0.

In the second, Jack McCaw found the end zone twice. The first was on a 41-yard run, the second was a 57-yard run. The lead at that point was 20-0 Hornets.

Gobles scored its only points just before halftime, but still trailed by two scores at 20-6.

Mendon found the end zone once in the third and fourth.

The third quarter TD was a 1-yard TD plunge from Schinker. In the fourth, the final points were scored by Evan Lukeman on a 6-yard TD and then a Schinker conversion run.

McCaw rushed 12 times for 204 yards, Lukeman rushed for 59, Schinker rushed for 24.

Stiver and Grant Crotser had big games, making 19 tackles each. Nathan Verguawen made 13 tackles, Schinker had 12 and Lukeman made 10 stops.

Dylan Cupp and Schinker each recovered a fumble as well.

Colon 52, Pittsford 0

Colon had no problems with Pittsford on Friday, winning 52-0.

There was no layover from the big win at Adrian Lenawee Christian last week. The Magi found the end zone in all four quarters in the game.

Two of those came in the first quarter. They both were scored by Justin Wickey.

The first came on a 72-yard punt return. The second came on a 3-yard TD pass from Simon Vinson, ending a 10-play, 63-yard TD drive that lasted 3:08.

Colon would score three times in the second half.

The first was a 13-yard TD run by Tucker Lafler. The second came on a 3-yard TD run from Vinson.

Jacob Bower hauled in a 30-yard TD pass from Vinson late in the second. This ended a 4-play, 73-yard TD drive.

In the second half, Colon scored 17 points.

Lafler scored on a 2-yard TD plunge early in the third.

Then, just before the third quarter ended, Alessandro Vanalli booted a 24-yard field goal to make the game 45-0. Vanalli connected on all seven of his extra points as well.

The final points of the game came on a 75-yard interception return from Maverick Downs, Vanalli booted the extra point through the uprights.

Colon led in total yardage at 290-163.

Lafler and Vinson led the rush attack with 41 yards each. Wickey rushed for eight yards.

Vinson completed 11 passes for 202 yards and two scores.

Wickey caught five of those passes for 121 yards and a score. Conner Hetman caught three for 38, Bower caught two for 38 with a score and Owen Wilson hauled in one for five yards.

Lafler led the defense with 12 tackles, including a sack and a forced fumble.

Downs had 10 tackles, including one for loss.

Hetman and Kaleb Thaxton each had seven stops, both Chuck Wagner and Jesse Ruby made six tackles.

Marcellus 66, Bloomingdale 0

Marcellus shut-out Bloomingdale 66-0 on Friday night. The Cardinals still have not scored on the season.

Dawsen Lehew rushed for 103 yards and three TDs for the Wildcats. Peyton Street also rushed for three TDs with 101 yards on the ground. Parker Adams tossed for two TD passes.

Both Yona Goodlow and Beau Ferguson made two interceptions for the Wildcat defense.

North Adams-Jerome 38, Burr Oak 0

Burr Oak dropped a 38-0 decision to North Adams-Jerome on Friday night.

Ethan Boyle led the Bobcats with 127 yards rushing, Hayden Holtom added 86.

Logan Abney caught a 15-yard pass.

Landon West made three fumble recoveries in the game, Abney made one.
