8 Beauty Secrets I Learned From Adriana Lima

From ELLE

Adriana Lima is so exceptionally hot that she has never even heard of FaceTune. "I don't have that!" she says when we meet at her Sunset Tower Hotel suite in L.A. "Can you show it to me?" I take a picture of my own face and demonstrate how to blur pores, brighten eyes, and hide the imperfections that Brazilian supermodels don't have. She's not too impressed. "I want to show what I am for real. Especially when you see my workout pictures. I am sweating, destroyed," says Lima, whose #TeamLima hashtag leads to a rabbit hole of red-faced fitspo on Instagram.

The 35-year-old Lima is in Los Angeles to celebrate her new campaign for Marc Jacobs Divine Decadence, the next installment after Decadence (which she also fronted) in Jacobs' fragrance portfolio. The champagne-spiked gardenia scent is especially personal to Lima because it evokes childhood memories of her mother: "She had gardenias in her garden. And now I have it myself in my house, with my children, so that's why I love it so much. And fragrance is so important. It is a symbol of femininity," she says. "I know what turns me on. Decadence."

Here, Lima shares her overnight pimple fix, her weekly DIY avocado beauty treatment, and the secret to a supermodel selfie.

Her approach to skincare

I wake up, and I put on sunscreen–Sun Bum is my favorite–and then I go to work out right after, so I do not have a lot on my skin. But I like to use products from my facial guy that I go to in Paris. His name is Herve Herau and I like to use his facial cleanser. There is a serum and a light lotion for the day. And everything that he makes, he makes himself, and is organic. I carry his products and just do all of it to myself in the morning. He is a different type of facialist. When you go in it's not like there is a menu, he builds everything for you, for your skin. Every time you go it depends on the weather, and your skin changes based on a million different things–what you eat, where you travel. So he sees you and he builds for you based on that.

Her overnight pimple fix

I just relax and that's it and wait until it's gone. But usually it's only one that I get, but in Brazil we have this thing that we do–if you take toothpaste, the white one, and then you put it on a pimple, then during the night it dries out. Also you can put tea-tree oil on a zit; it dries it out faster. Just put it on during the night and then wash it off in the morning.

Her everyday beauty look

I have good eyebrows but I like to elongate them at the end to make them a little bit longer. But once I am in Miami, I am everyday with my children, so I like to use mascara and a lip balm. That's it. But if I go out at night I use a red lipstick. I am crazy for red lipstick. Maybelline Matte Scarlet and Siren. It's like a cherry red. I don't do a liner with it. I am very good. When it's matte, when you apply it, it's easier for you.

Her overnight hair solution

In Brazil we do a lot of hair wraps. You wrap around your hair around your head with bobby pins. You can do the hair when you sleep and then take it out in the morning. Every Brazilian knows how to do it. Just when it's needed, I do it. Or if I have a nice dinner with my friends, or just because.

Her workout

I love boxing. When I travel, though, I do more running. I mix things up with running, shadow boxing, and a little lifting weights. It depends. I kind of design my own workout depending on how I feel. Today I ran on the treadmill for four miles. It was 45 minutes, speed 6. The room was very hot, which I love, actually, because it makes you sweat more! I like more intense workouts–anything that keeps me moving a lot.

How to stay motivated

I always motivate myself to workout because I think about the results, and I know how it feels after-it always feels great. Because I have children and I travel a lot, I really have to nourish my body, so I eat very healthy: fruits, vegetables, protein. I do sometimes splurge but you know everything in life is about balance. I am always ready. I am always ready! That's my job, that's why I am a model. That's why I have been here for so many years.

Her perfect selfie pose

I usually like to take pictures from above. I don't know why. I don't think I am actually a big selfie person but yes, I guess I just do it from above.

Her DIY beauty ritual

I like to mix my conditioner with one whole avocado. So my hair is like super shiny. Just on my hair. Just once a week.
