The 7 Premier League signings already living up to their large price-tags

Just four games into the Premier League season and we are already having to deal with the first international break of the campaign.

A two-week gap in the schedule at this early stage gives clubs a chance to take stock, assess their start and plan for the next four week block of fixtures.

Usually, this international break is dominated by the closing of the transfer window, but not this year.

It is nearly a month since it closed and we are already used to seeing certain players in different jerseys – but who is already justifying their transfer fee?

Jorginho

The Chelsea midfielder just oozes class and he has slotted seamlessly into life in the top-flight of English football. Helped by the fact he is playing under the same manager, Maurizio Sarri, as he did at Napoli for the past three and a half years. Still, it has been an impressive first month for Jorginho, emphasised by how jealous Manchester City fans are given he was one of Pep Guardiola’s main summer targets.

Richarlison

‘How much?’ was the reaction of nearly everybody when Everton stumped up £50m to sign the Brazilian from Watford. Strained relations between the clubs bumped up the price somewhat, yet Richarlison has looked something like a £50m player in the opening games. Three goals in the first two games were tainted by a red card against Bournemouth, but that does not take away from his form. It is clear that Marco Silva gets the best out of Richarlison.

Aleksandar Mitrović

There was almost added pressure on Mitrovic this year, given his loan spell had been turned into a £22m permanent move and he was yet to fire in the Premier League. Four goals in his opening four games and it’s safe to say he is justifying that price tag. Rafa Benitez might not trust Mitro, but Slavisa Jokanovic certainly does. It is 16 goals in 24 games in all competitions now and he was clearly the missing piece to the Fulham puzzle.

Jean Michaël Seri

Turning down Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs for Fulham is a decision that raised eyebrows, yet Seri is already proving it was a wise move. A stunning goal at Burnley made everyone sit up and take notice of the 27-year-old, who also notched an assist at Brighton on the weekend. Fulham made a huge number of signings over the summer and alongside Andre Schurrle, £30m signing Seri is looking the part.

James Maddison

Only five outfield English players made the move from the Championship to the Premier League this summer, with James Maddison’s £24m move from Norwich to Leicester the eye-catching one. Maddison is already showing that figure to be small though and looks made for life at the top level with one goal and one assist. Numerous clubs were after his signature and it feels like only a matter of time before Gareth Southgate calls the 21-year-old up to an England squad.

Alisson Becker

Yes, Alisson would have had four clean sheets were it not for his glaring error at Leicester, but don’t let that takeaway from a near-perfect start to life at Anfield. Briefly the world’s most expensive keeper, Alisson has already improved Liverpool. Smart saves at both Crystal Palace and against Brighton ensured Liverpool remained unbeaten, while Jurgen Klopp’s side are reaping the rewards of his distribution.

Naby Keita

Nearly a year after his deal was announced, Naby Keita’s debut performance had everyone purring – not just Liverpool fans. He has not quite hit those heights again, but that would have been tough to do every game. Keita’s signing, alongside that of Alisson, looks to have taken Liverpool to the next level. The 23-year-old may have cost £59m, but he looks worth every penny.
