It’s the start of a new year, and if one of your goals for The Mighty’s 52 Small Things challenge is getting back to work, we’ve got another list of virtual job opportunities that might pique your interest. Before we reveal the list, In the spirit of #52SmallThings, here are a few suggestions on ways you can take your job search one step at a time.
First, how’s your resume? Most jobs will want to see your work history, education and other relevant skills that might make you a good fit for the company. If it’s been a while, set a goal to spend the week sprucing up your resume. Don’t just update your info — review its visual appeal too. Does it look crisp and professional? Does everything line up correctly? When you think you’ve got your resume in tip-top shape, send it to a friend for a second review.
Another inevitable aspect of job hunting is the interview. Answering questions on the spot make a lot of people anxious, so if this is you, set small goals to boost your skills. Spend a week practicing your answers to common interview questions by role-playing with a friend. Take another week to formulate the types of questions you might ask a potential employer since asking questions can be just as important as answering them in a job interview.
And of course, search for jobs you’d like to apply for. Dedicate a week to brainstorm what kind of work you’re looking for and then find employers that need people just like you. Break the search down further by spending the next week identifying five positions you want to apply for. The next week, focus on polishing your cover letter for two jobs and get those sent.
To get you started, here are seven companies with work-from-home jobs to check out. Let us know how your search is going in the comments or by posting a Thought or Question on The Mighty using the #52SmallThings hashtag!
