Lauren Chan may be a rookie in the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue, but the Canadian model is an expert when it comes to the fashion industry. Having worked as a fashion features editor at Glamour, Chan has experience both writing about the industry and walking the walk—literally—down runways for Christian Siriano and others.
She’s also the founder and CEO of Henning, a luxury brand of womenswear that was acquired by Universal Standard this spring. Chan now serves as the company’s head of brand partnerships.
As for her SI Swimsuit photoshoot in the Dominican Republic, Chan described feeling “at home” while on location with the team in the Caribbean. She also noted that she was proud to be featured in a publication that promotes size diversity and inclusion in an industry that often does not.
“We’ve evolved so much and I think that in fashion right now, we can kind of see a little bit of a slide back away from size inclusion,” she stated. “It’s important to remember to keep doing what we do because it’s up to us to keep that top of mind, keep pushing for inclusion, to keep reminding people that they’re not what they look like, so that we don’t get back there because there’s the very real potential to end up that way.”
Chan, who is currently represented by JAG Models and P1M Artist and Talent Management, wore a number of incredible bikinis and one-piece swimsuits for her rookie feature. While we can’t pick just one favorite, below we’re throwing it back to a few incredible pieces of swimwear the model rocked in the Dominican Republic.
