7 Celebrities Who Have Tried Online Dating
It seems like only yesterday that pop culture was extremely invested in perpetuating the myth that online dating was guaranteed to be a disaster. (Remember that episode of Sex and the City where Stanford started meeting guys online"? I'll never get the image of him waiting miserably at a sex club in his underwear for a dude whose screen name was "BigTool4U" out of my mind.)
These days, online dating is...just dating, pretty much. According to a February Pew Research poll, 48% of 18-to-29-year-olds self-reported having used a dating site or app, and even during the current coronavirus pandemic, people are still meeting up, at least online (though hopefully not in person). I've met the lion's share of people I've dated online, as have most of my millennial friends.
Even celebrities have started being open about online dating. Let the list below inspire you to reactivate that Tinder, Hinge, or Lex profile and craft those "Hey, want to go for a chaste, socially distanced walk when it's safe to do so?" pickup lines.
Lizzo
The singer and songwriter boasted about having men "already in my DMs" in her 2017 empowerment anthem "Truth Hurts," and her reality is no different: Last year, Lizzo said during an appearance on Busy Tonight that she had a profile on the dating app Raya (but she wasn't in the mood to match with "fucking Chandler" from "fucking Friends").
Sharon Stone
Not only did Stone join Bumble, she got banned from it. Legends only! Other users reported Stone's account, thinking it was fake, but Bumble quickly abided by her request to restore it.
Amy Schumer
In Schumer's book The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo, she shared that she met former boyfriend Ben Hanisch on a "private social network aimed at creative people." That's gotta be Raya, right? Schumer is now the mother of an almost-one-year-old with husband Chris Fischer, whom she met IRL when his sister worked as her personal assistant.
Chace Crawford
The former Gossip Girl star told Now magazine, "I have a bunch of different accounts that no one even knows about." Color us intrigued...

Hannibal Buress
The comedian is another Tinder user, but he's not really a fan: He told Cosmopolitan in 2015, "I've used Tinder, but I have never met anybody from it. I'll match with people, and then they'll reference my character from Broad City, and then that feels weird. They'll be, like, 'Is this really Lincoln?' And I'm, like, 'That's not my real name. You see my name, it's on the profile.' So I've been on it, but I just haven't met anybody from it."
