The season of spooky fashion (aka Halloween) will be here in the blink of an eye. And to be honest, it's never too early to start prepping your costume, which we've actually already started to do for you. We've spotlighted some great It girl–approved costumes, found modest dress-up ideas perfect for the office, and even looked to the internet for some meme-inspired costumes that'll make everyone LOL (for real!).
We recognize, though, that costumes might not be everyone's cup of tea. But that doesn't mean you can't be festive in some other way: Cool makeup is one option for adding a bit of spook to your routine without having to take a major sartorial plunge, as is painting your nails with one of the below Halloween nail colors. Think: a blood red, slime green, and classic orange, plus a few more that can look just as spine-chilling as a skeleton costume. All of these are a low-commitment way to celebrate October 31.
Ahead, see seven Halloween-appropriate polishes we'll be swiping on our nails when we're just not in the mood to piece together a costume.
Red Nail Polish
You can't go wrong with red nail polish. It's classic, but also spooky, especially when paired with an all-black look. Vampire vibes, anyone?
Christian Louboutin Rouge Louboutin Nail Colour in Edgypopi ($50)
Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Color in Gitane ($28)
Black Nail Polish
Black nail polishes ooze grunge vibes, which is why it's perfect for the spooky season—but best of it, it pairs well with everything.
Deborah Lippmann Gel Lab Pro Nail Color in Fade to Black ($20)
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Polish in Black Out ($3)
Green Nail Polish
Slime green is still reigning supreme in the fashion and beauty worlds, and that's exactly why you should consider sporting the hue on your nails come Halloween. Plus, it's perfect for a Frankenstein-inspired nail design.
China Glazer Nail Lacquer in Kiwi Coolada ($10)
OPI Nail Lacquer in I'm Sooo Swamped! ($11)
Orange Nail Polish
Sorry to state the obvious, but orange nail polish is about as essential to Halloween (and fall) as candy corn.
Purple Nail Polish
Royal purple is elegant, but when paired with a lacey black dress or a slime-green top, it becomes a tad bit more terrifying (in the best way possible, of course).
Christian Louboutin Rouge Louboutin Nail Color in Lady Page ($50)
OPI Infinite Shine in Love or Lust-Er? ($8)
Blue Nail Polish
Blue polish is dark and sinister, but not quite as mysterious as black. It also pairs well with everything.
Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Color ($28)
Sinful Colors Professional Nail Polish in Endless Blue ($2)
Metallic Nail Polish
When in doubt, metallic it out. The shiny lacquer is great for a disco-inspired costume (or maybe a space-themed one).
Olive and June 7-Free Nail Polish in Ojpas ($8)
