Holiday Gift Guide 2019
Holiday Gift Guide 2019

Is it just me, or does holiday gift shopping get harder every year? I don’t know if it’s because there’s just so much to choose from (online shopping is such a blessing and a curse), or because my creativity is waning, but I always find myself scrambling for last-minute gifts in the third (OK, fourth) week of December, hoping they’ll arrive in time. That’s why this year, I’m opting to gift beer and wine subscriptions to as many people as I can afford.

The beauty of beer and wine subscription services is that anyone who drinks beer and/or wine will appreciate them. And, the price is usually fairly customizable. You can almost always choose the frequency of delivery (or just opt to send a single box), and can sometimes choose the quantity of each box. So, you could send a $40 beer box to a friend, and a $199 premium wine box to a significant other who’s a little bit of a wine snob.

No matter what kind of beer or wine subscription you’re looking to gift this year, here are seven solid options that might be just what you’re looking for.

Vinebox

For wine tasting enthusiasts, Vinebox offers a quarterly or bi-annual delivery of nine carefully curated wines “by the glass.” Each wine comes in a signature Vinebox cylinder, and members get a credit with each box to buy a full-size bottle of their favorite pour.

U.S. Microbrewed Beer Club

For craft beer lovers who want to sip brews beyond their own region, this beer club is perfect. It samples beers from across the country, and there are twelve bottles (three each of four different beers) in each box.

California Wine Club

For years, the California Wine Club has been delivering wine country’s best to members around the country. Their original subscription option, the premier series, delivers two wines in each box. You can choose to receive red wine, white wine, or both, and can choose the frequency of delivery. Each box is billed separately.

Rare Beer Club

For true beer snobs, this box delivers hard-to-find beers that have been vetted by experts. Each box contains two, four, or six 750mL bottles, and you can choose the frequency of delivery.

Leon Circle

Leon and Sons, a popular wine store in Brooklyn, NY, curates this fantastic wine box. Every month, club members get three bottles that are a mix of classic styles and modern, natural wines.

Craft Beer Club

When hitting up a brewery isn’t in the cards, the Craft Beer Club offers an at-home alternative. Each box contains twelve bottles (three each of four different beers) that change each month. Members can choose the frequency of delivery, and will get a bonus gift (or three) in each box.

The Somm Six

For serious wine drinkers, The Somm Six is just what it sounds like: a sommelier-approved box of six high-quality wines, delivered to you as frequently as you choose. This one is on the pricier end, but even a single box could be the perfect gift for the wine-loving friend or loved one who’s tough to shop for. There’s also less expensive option that delivers four bottles of lower-priced wine.
