  • Andie MacDowell opened up about going gray at the recent Hollywood Beauty Awards.

  • The 64-year-old said she’s “very comfortable” with her decision to transition her tresses.

  • “It’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a while,” she said.

The recent eighth annual Hollywood Beauty Awards not only welcomed Andie MacDowell, but honored her with the Timeless Beauty Award—a title that is effortlessly complemented by her striking gray hair. The actress accidentally embraced the transition during the pandemic, and silver strands have since become a more “real and honest” signature look, she told Entertainment Tonight following the ceremony.

The 64-year-old said she’s “really comfortable” rocking her gray. “It’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a while,” she continued. “And I’m really comfortable with where I am right now in my life. I just want to embrace the time where I am and be as real and honest as I can, not only with everybody else but also with myself.”

That sentiment matches up with other comments MacDowell has made since debuting the look in Instagram selfies and then at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. Up until then, she dyed her curls dark brown, and once she began letting salt-and-pepper peek through, the thought of going back felt inauthentic. So, despite her managers’ protest, she kept the color.

“The age on my face, to me, no longer matched [my hair],” she told Vogue in 2021.I somehow feel like I look younger because it looks more natural. It’s not like I’m trying to hide something. I think that it’s a power move, and that’s what I kept telling my managers. It’s exactly what I need to be doing right here.”

In addition to going with her gut when it comes to hair, the actress is doing the same in her love life. She’s frequently asked about dating, and her response is always the same: She’s open to finding a match, but it’s also not a priority.

As MacDowell has aged, she’s come to know “the intense amount of love that you feel” for all meaningful relationships in life, she told ET. “And so you have a bigger opportunity to have a larger heart and compassionate love and empathy for all kinds of different people. So, it’s not like I’m searching for a relationship.”

She continued: “Like, I could have a great friendship with you and be very fulfilled with the compassion and love that I could feel for you, or other people. It’s just a shift that happens with age, which feels really good.”
