What do you do if you're in need of some cold Riesling or Beaujolais now, but all your bottles are at room temperature? If you've ever found yourself in this dire situation, you'd know the secrets to chilling wine fast are obligatory.
You can't add ice to your glass (it'll dilute the wine). And you can't stick the bottle straight into the freezer (it'll likely explode). The good news? There are more practical ways to get yourself an ice-cold Chardonnay in a matter of minutes. Here are six of them.
1. Submerge the wine bottle in a bucket filled with ice water and salt.
Make an ice bucket for your bottle, but with one special ingredient: salt! Salt brings down the freezing temperature of water, which will chill your wine faster.
2. Drop frozen grapes into your wine glass.
Not only are frozen grapes an amazing snack, they're also a great way to chill wine. Drop your frozen grapes into your glass—they'll function just like ice cubes, except you won't end up with watered-down wine.
3. Use chilled metal wine stones in your wine glass.
Wine Pearls are hand-polished stainless steel "pearls" that have a freezing gel inside, which works to quickly cool your glass of wine, without diluting it in the process. Wine Pearls will keep your wine cold for up to an hour.
Cheap, trendy, and European. What more could you ask for?
4. Wrap the wine bottle in a damp towel, then place it in the freezer.
Wrap a damp towel around the bottle and leave it to chill in the freezer. The damp towel will freeze quickly, and thanks to the frozen towel, the wine will chill in half the time it usually would. (Note: When you remove the bottle from the freezer, the towel might be stuck to it—to fix this, simply run it under warm water and the towel will slide off. )
5. Use a chilled wine bottle spout that cools the wine as you pour.
Ravi is a spout that you can adhere to the top of a wine bottle or a decanter. Ravi chills the wine as it's poured through the spout, instantly.
6. Cork it with a Corksicle.
This stainless steel Corksicle extends all the way to the bottom of your bottle, chilling it quickly throughout. Replace the the wine cork with Corksicle and you're on your way to ice cold wine. Best of all, you don't even have to uncork it—the Corksicle features a spout that you can pour through, even while it's inside the bottle.
