In L.A., we’ve got casual cool style on lock. We’re also really into taking care of our hair—whether it’s detoxifying our scalp or protecting our blonde highlights. On that note, we’re always looking for ways to refresh our style, since a fresh chop or color pivot is the easiest way to switch things up in a snap. As we begin the new year, we spoke to some of our favorite stylists in the area to see what their clients are asking for right now.

1. Strong Bobs
"Hailey Bieber continues to lead trends with her short strong bob. This cut is straight, blunt and structured. To get the look, ask your stylist to cut your hair into a square shape, all one length," shares Klein.
A tip for customizing the bob: Point cutting will add a slight texture to it, whereas cutting straight across will give you blunt ends.
2. Airy Bobs
"With lots of airy volume and rounded edges, this cut gives ‘off duty model’ vibes for 2024," says Jackson. Bobs have been gaining even more popularity recently because they're so versatile. Chat with your stylist to figure out the best length and placement of layers to flatter your face shape and hair texture.
For styling, Jackson recommends using a blowdry brush at home. "You can some fun switching up the part, tossing the hair over to one side or adding a swooping curtain bang for added drama."
3. The Heartthrob Haircut
“Everything from the ‘90s has been back in a major way, and this cut feels like a modern nod to that era,” says Roszak. “There are no harsh lines. Just soft edges with a bit of length at the nape of the neck (but not as long as a shag) and a touch of length in the front, which gives the look a boyish femininity,” she adds.
Tip: To style your cut at home, Roszak recommends applying a pump of oil to damp hair and let it air dry. If needed, use a large round brush to smooth out the face-framing layers before tucking them behind your ears, then untucking a few strands for the perfect soft bend.
4. Natural Curls
According to Streicher, curly cuts are big on the streets of L.A. right now. "More curly girls are over blowing out their hair and stylists are teaching clients how to wear their curls as is. It helps that there are so many hydrating products for soft natural curls."
5. Soft Lobs
And if you want a fresh cut but are reluctant to make too drastic of a change, consider a lob or a bob that sits above the shoulders. As Streitcher explains, "This haircut is extremely wearable and easy for most hair types." Just ask your stylist to snip in some "soft, face-framing layers around the face to add volume to your hair, while keeping the rest of the perimeter one length," shares Klein, who also advises using a round brush to slightly curl the ends under and a roller for the front pieces.
6. Voluminous Layers
"The '90s are back and still going strong, which is why I’m predicting a lot of layers this year," proclaims Klein. "Ask your stylist to keeping the perimeter long, while adding rounded layers throughout and around the face to add tons of volume and movement, so you really get that bouncy blowout look."
