6 Eyeshadow Looks to Recreate This Holiday Season

With November just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about your holiday makeup. And this season, it's going to be all about the eyes.
While for holidays past, you may have paid more attention to your lipstick color than your eyeshadow choice, now that we will all be sporting face masks for the foreseeable future, this is the perfect time to play up your eyes.
And the best part is that whether you’re trying to create a demure eyeshadow look for the day, or a dramatic bold eye for a nighttime Zoom Christmas party, this is the time of year to show off your creativity when it comes to your makeup game.
To give you some inspiration, we tapped celebrity makeup artist and Lumify brand ambassador, Vincent Oquendo — who has worked with numerous stars like Lily Collins, Janelle Monáe, Bella Hadid, and Hailey Bieber — to discover what eyeshadow looks he predicts will be hot this holiday season.
Here, he shares six holiday styles that will have your eyes do all the talking this season, and explains exactly how to recreate them.

“I created this Christmas eyeshadow look on Becky G. It’s fun and one that I love," Oquendo shares with InStyle. "First, I found nail appliqué pearls at a beauty supply store and ensured that they had a flat back without adhesive. To use the appliqué pearls you’ll need to apply duo glue underneath so they stick."
The MUA started off by applying a nude eyeshadow to the lids, then used Maybelline New York’s TattooStudio Sharpenable Gel Pencil in Polished White to line the top lids. Afterwards, he added some glue to the flat surface of the pearls and applied them on top of the liner.
"My big trick is to use a paper fan to fan the glue, just a touch, so it's not dry, but it's a bit tacky," he suggests. "It sticks right away so you don't end up with glue in your eye and allows for more precise application."

"I created this second Christmas eyeshadow look on Leomie Anderson, it features a sapphire graphic [finish]," the MUA shares. "Instead of making it smokey, I used a black kohl pencil to keep the shape precise. With a fluffy crease blending brush, I applied and set the eye with metallic blue eyeshadow. It’s essential to use the eyeshadow wet to make it pop and bring out the shadow’s pigmented nature."

“First, I buffed out Maybelline New York’s TattooStudio Sharpenable Gel Pencil in Bold Brown, then I packed on a neutral eyeshadow," Oquendo explains. "Following this, I did one of my favorite little tricks: I took a pointed cotton bud, dipped it in Garnier Micellar Water, and I edged out the shape. Doing this takes the edge off of nailing the eyeshadow shape right away, allowing you to get a little messy. I originally created on Maya Hawke, [and with her], I used a lot of black mascara on her top and bottom lashes to really create that full lash effect.”

"The joy of this kind of eye makeup is that there are no hard lines," the makeup artist shares. "Warm eyes tend to really work any time of year, but I particularly love them around the holidays."
To recreate this masterpiece, Oquendo suggests starting off by using Shiseido's Kajal Ink Artist in Tea House on the lids, alongside Maybelline Nudes of New York Eyeshadow Palette.
"I took a matte warm color from the Nudes of New York Palette and put it right over Jurnee [Smollett]’s lids, then defined around her eyes with a darker black shade to give the eyes a bit more depth,” he says.

“Start by applying cool neutral colors for your base shape," Oquendo explains. "Once your base shape is on, take a metallic blue color, wet it, and paint it on the lids, then add a glittery sparkle. I recommend using Lemonhead as they have amazing vegan glitters in different sizes and textures. Make sure you use your fingers when you apply this because it helps you get more control."

“One of my favorite things to do, especially if I'm creating a Christmas eyeshadow look, is to go for dual metallic tones since you can really make an eye pop regardless of skin tone," the makeup artist shares. "I created this look on Elsa Hosk by shaping a metallic baby blue eyeshadow like a winged eyeliner. I would recommend starting off the look with a long-lasting eyeliner pencil, I used Maybelline’s TattooStudio Sharpenable Gel Pencil."
Afterwards, take the look to the next level with your favorite baby blue metallic eyeshadow, then dip a Q-tip in Garnier's Micellar Water to carve out the winged liner shape. "This makes the eyes look larger and longer,” Oquendo says.
