6 Easy Ways to Add Wonderfood Manuka Honey to Your Diet

You’ve heard of the benefits of Manuka honey, and that it’s totally OK to slather on skin. But what about eating it? Sure, you could drop a dollop into your tea...but are there other, more creative ways to reap the functional benefits of the golden goo? “The options are endless when it comes to adding Manuka honey to your day,” says Cara Clark, a certified nutritionist.

Clark’s worked with everyone from Olympic athletes and NBA stars to folks interested in weight loss, sports, prenatal and postpartum nutrition. And she happens to love Manuka honey for its health and wellness benefits. Her favorite brand: Comvita Manuka honey, which is non-GMO certified and the only Manuka honey that is gluten-free. It’s also sustainably sourced and certified UMF™ (aka the gold standard for origin, quality and potency of Manuka honey). Here, six of her favorite recipes to incorporate this wonderfood into your diet.

1. Dairy-Free 'Milk'shake

Instead of sugar, Clark adds a tablespoon of Manuka honey to a frozen banana, kale, cacao powder, peanut butter, almond milk and ice for a superfood-packed shake that’s just as delicious for breakfast as it is as a late-night snack.

2. Apple Nachos

Make “nachos” out of apple slices by drizzling them with almond butter, Manuka honey and granola. “With the addition of Comvita Manuka honey, we not only have the perfect amount of sweetness, we’ve added antioxidants to increase overall health,” Clark writes. And since it’s no-bake, we’re adding this recipe to our summer snack lineup.

3. Golden Latte

Mix up your morning by adding a spoonful of Manuka honey to your coffee or tea. Or do as Clark recommends and add it to your powdered latte mix. “I love to steam some almond or oat milk and stir in my golden latte mix (turmeric, ginger, cinnamon), then drizzle about a teaspoon of Manuka honey on top,” she says.

4. Banana “Split”

This isn’t the classic dessert you’re probably thinking of—it’s Clark’s go-to for a quick and healthy breakfast. “I split a banana, add Greek yogurt, then almond butter. I sprinkle berries and granola on top and drizzle with Manuka honey,” she explains.

5. Energy Bites

Clark says she loves these grab-and-go frozen strawberry energy bites, packed with frozen strawberries, rolled oats, coconut or almond flour, shredded coconut and Manuka honey. “Since they're also no bake, I know I'm not losing the integrity of nature's finest honey,” she adds.

6. Thai Stir Fry

“Is there anything better than sauce?” Clarks asks. We think not. Add Manuka honey to sriracha, garlic and coconut aminos for a sweet and tangy stir fry blend that’s way tastier (and better for you) than takeout.
