Last week, I decluttered my denim collection and parted with 15 bottoms. However, out of all the silhouettes, I kept a vast amount of wide-leg jeans thanks to their flattering design that lengthens the leg and has a retro look. Wide-leg denim is also so easy to wear, transcending from season to season; Jennifer Lopez, Katie Holmes, and Jennifer Garner all repeat-wear the style.

5 Editor-Approved Wide-Leg Jeans

Even though wide-leg jeans are simple to style, that doesn’t mean you’ll never have a fashion dilemma again. That’s why I’m sharing the wide-leg denim outfit combos I can’t quit wearing this summer, below, including comfy sneakers, breezy tops, woven purses, and more.

Comfy White Sneakers

There’s nothing more foolproof than a pair of white sneakers—and when coordinated with a pair of loose jeans, you’ll look cool and casual. I own the Cariuma Oca Low Canvas Sneaker and the Løci Low-Top Origin tennis shoe. Both provide ample cushioning, a durable sole, and chic, lightweight design that lets me walk for miles. The Reebok Club C Vintage Walking Shoe is yet another classic at an affordable price, while the Veja Ucre CWL Sneaker comes from a Kate Middleton- and Reese Witherspoon-worn brand. Opt for a cropped jean to show off your shoes, or let the spacious leg cascade over the sneaker for a laid-back approach.

Staple Tank Tops

No one wants to be sticky or run extra hot during the summer, so consider a staple tank top similar to those worn by Selena Gomez, Kylie Jenner, and Taylor Swift. Whether you opt for a printed linen-blend version from J.Crew or an $8 option from Hanes, you can look forward to a perfectly balanced ensemble that lets your shoulders do the talking. This high-neck Madewell find is extra sexy, while Nordstrom offers a deep scoop neck in bright seasonal colors.

Easygoing Woven Bags

Wide-leg jeans are so perfectly relaxed that they need an equally easygoing purse to go with it. My solution? Woven straw totes. Whether they include a leather trim, unique geometric details, or dumpling-like bodies, a straw bag hangs effortlessly on the shoulder. You can even make your outfit a bit more elevated by snagging this natural shoulder bag from Kate Spade, which is currently 61 percent off.

Slingback Kitten Heels

I like to add a bit of extra height when wearing wide-leg denim, and that’s not just because I’m under 5-feet-tall. Slingback kitten heels—like these buttery yellow Franco Sarto pumps or mesh Steve Madden shoes—boost the frame, offsetting the oversized pants. Slingback heels also elevate the overall look, making your once casual denim perfect for wearing to dinner, date night, and girl’s night out.

Breezy Blouses

You can’t have a summer-perfect ‘fit without a breezy seasonal top. Prettygarden is offering a steal on its lace puff-sleeve blouse, while J.Crew knows you can never have too many ruffles. The Hill House Home Nap Top is a more casual version of its best-selling Nap Dress, and the Simplefun V-Neck shirt offers a versatile separate that can be worn to brunch, picnics, and bike rides.

There’s no doubt about it: each item looks stylish with wide-leg denim on its own. However, when you mix and match the pieces together, your outfit is taken to another level—just think of those bright Franco Sarto pumps with that chic Kate Spade bag. Whatever styles you choose, you’ll be sure to have statement-making ensembles this summer.
