These Are the 6 Prints You Should Be Wearing This Summer

Whether you’re a one-pattern-at-a-time kind of gal or a Margherita Missoni-level print-mixing master, these six prints are at the top of the list when it comes to summer trends. Here’s how to wear each of them with confidence.

1. Fruits and Veggies

According to the global fashion search platform Lyst, searches for fruit-print pieces are up 31 percent compared to this time last year. Maybe it's due to Harry Styles and his incredible Watermelon Sugar music video, maybe it's because we've all gotten way more into cooking and grocery shopping since quarantine began, either way it appears the time for wearing your heart stomach on your sleeve has arrived.

Shop the trend: LOFT skirt ($60; $27); Compania Fantastica top ($39); ModCloth skirt ($59; $40); Wilfred dress ($158; $79); ASTR the Label dress ($118); Farm Rio romper ($160); Finders Keepers dress ($165)

2. Tie-Dye

Yes, the summer camp throwback is still going strong. While tie-dye sweats seemed to be the quarantine uniform of March and April, T-shirts, dresses and shorts are taking over for June, July and beyond. Lean into that Woodstock vibe with vibrant colors and rainbow swirls paired with denim and easy sandals. Or, if you're not super into the Dead Head aesthetic, try a print that incorporates just two similar shades (like pink and orange or white and blue) closer to the pastel end of the spectrum.

Shop the trend: Socialite skirt ($35; $14); ASOS x GLAAD& T-shirt ($38); Lulus x LUSH dress ($60; $48); Piexoto shorts ($66); Pilcro and the Letterpress blouse ($98); ATM Anthony Thomas Melillo dress ($195)

3. Gingham

Another trend recorded by Lyst, searches for this summer staple have increased by 49 percent since the beginning of May. In particular, folks are looking for the pattern in the classic shade of red and, a bit less expected, yellow. So whether you prefer to lean into the timeless picnic look with ruby red gingham and some denim shorts, or you'd rather shake things up with a boho frock in a less obvious color choice, there's definitely a way to make this trend work for you.

Shop the trend: 1901 pants ($69; $35); Topshop top ($40); Warehouse dress ($78; $43); H&M dress ($50); ASOS dress ($51); BB Dakota top ($79); Maeve skirt ($128; $90); Ganni blouse ($190; $95); J.Crew pants ($178); Majorelle dress ($258)

4. Toile

This delicate French print is a gorgeous alternative to your typical dainty floral, just with a bit more Parisian sophistication. Although it’s most often found in blue with a white background, red, green or yellow yellow variations and even black and white are also trending.

Shop the trend: ASOS dress ($76; $31); Babaton dress ($138; $69); Lucy Paris dress ($98); The Korner blazer ($138); Staud sandals ($275; $165); Free People dress ($168); NST Studio bag ($258; $180); Frame top ($195)

5. Abstract Animal Print

Classic leopard spots and zebra stripes definitely aren’t out, but we’re thinking a little further outside the box for animal prints this summer. Think unnatural colors and vague resemblances to safari regulars rather than super literal iterations.

Shop the trend: Never Fully Dressed top ($62); French Connection dress ($102; $70); Blank NYC shorts ($78); Pistola skirt ($98); Beachgold shirt ($108); Twisted Wunder dress ($119); Ganni dress ($250); Equipment blouse ($280); Baja East blazer ($545)

6. Mixed Media

Polka dots and florals and stripes, oh my! It doesn’t matter which prints you sport for this particular trend so long as you're wearing multiple at once. Patchwork dresses and blouses made from a variety of bold, colorful patterns are cropping up left and right. These pieces take all the guesswork out of print mixing, so you can just slip something on and go without expending unnecessary brain power figuring out whether that Hawaiian print really does go with that toile.

Shop the trend: Daniel Rainn skirt ($118); Bl-nk blouse ($128); dRA jumpsuit ($168); Varun Bahl dress ($178); Xirena skirt ($225); For Love and Lemons dress ($242)
